Bleacher Report

John Jenkins #20
Kenny Vaccaro # 9

Other notables: Jarvis Jones #14, Eric Reid #7, Tyrann Mathieu #4

quote:

Nose tackles aren’t known for piling up statistics, and Saints rookie John Jenkins is unlikely to become an exception. That said, the third-round pick has looked thus far to be an answer to the team’s need for a nose tackle to anchor its three-man front.

The athletic 346-pounder has recorded seven total tackles in three games—a solid number for a nose tackle.

Jenkins did not record any quarterback hurries in Week 3, according to PFF, but his ability to provide a solid presence in the middle on all three downs makes him very valuable in the Saints’ new defensive scheme.

quote:

The Saints continued to see immediate results from first-round pick Kenny Vaccaro versus the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Vaccaro recorded his first career interception, which he returned 29 yards, and had seven total tackles in New Orleans’ 31-7 victory.

Vaccaro has played every Saints defensive snap through three weeks and has lined up all over the field on the back end of new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan’s scheme. He has been a very active defender, recording 17 tackles through three weeks. He hasn't given up any plays longer than 16 yards in pass coverage.

The Saints defense has made immediate progress this season with Ryan leading the way. And one reason for that progress has been Vaccaro, who has stepped in impressively for a rookie to an every-down, impact-player role.

I know, I know. But it's a talking point about the impact our rookies are having. At least someone has them ranked amongst the top 25 rooks

The tackle that Vaccaro made on the RB at the first down marker on 3rd down in the 2nd quarter against Arizona was money..drive ender. And his tip against Atlanta....these impact plays can't be quantified by simple stats.

I agree. He's playing loads better than the stats show. He's making an impact on the field, I've seen Palmer look his way sometimes and go to his second read because the throw just wasn't there. Vaccaro won't record a stat on plays like this, but he was on the receiver like white on rice. That's an impact. Gives our d-line more time to get to the QB.

he is a drive ender. he might not get to the ball in time to make a play (alot of times it's not even his assignment) but he gets his hands on players and brings them down

that is so crucial, and a big effing deal in case you ever play a team with wes welker...

They were all highly debated draft options for our organization so seeing how their careers turn out compared to those of whom we drafted is notable.

Vaccaro is killing it for us, that's all that matters

That's great but stop being a dufus and getting all upset when others are comparing vaccaro's performance to others though. No harm.

Oh quit being a little bitch. You know damn good and well why I listed them as notable and it has nothing to do with LSU

I listed them as "notable" not main topic. Jackass

I'm mildly surprised with Reid's production thus far.

Difference with 49ers is i think the players around him may make reid a bit better, i think vaccaro is making the rest of the D around him better. If that makes any sense.
