Payton is a good coach but he doesn't use commond sense sometimes, most obvious was tampa game last year.
The Payton era at New Orleans will be very simular to the Air Coryell era at San Diego.
Great QB, hell of an offense but NO D. Go to a conf Chap game, to a few divisional games but without D your not going to make the next leap.
I would much rather have the 89-93 defense than this offense.

everyone keeps saying he needs to be more creative, but he gets bashed for that too

they are 1-2 after playing 3 very good teams. If they win the next 2 or 3 in a row that puts us in a very good position. Lets see where we stand in a month or two before we start calling for Payton's head.

Yep, he got bashed for being creative on a critical 3rd down in that game and we lost.
This year against Tampa, he goes conservative, runs the ball, doesn't get the 1st down, we punt and stop them to win the game. No one complains.
Against Washington, we do the the same thing we did the previous week, but we can't stop Washington and lose the game. Payton gets criticized.
Against Denver, we do the same thing again, we go conservative and run on 3rd and 1 and don't get it, miss the field goal and lose. Fans criticize Payton.
What is he supposed to do, he's damned if he goes creative, damned if he goes conservative. If Gramatica makes the field goal and we win, if we stop washington and win, if that reverse goes for a first down and we win, is Payton criticized then?

Dumb arse I was at the game if we make the field goal they still had 1:55 left we still would have lost the D was not going to stop them they hadn't all day

Air Coryell=Air Payton
Defense wins championships
Defense wins championships

No, Miami passing on Brees b/c of his surgery is the reason Brees is here.

Thats alot of ifs and should ofs
Not saying I don't like the coach but right now he is not getting it done. If he would get rid of Gibbs and get somebody who can coach a little D things could be alot different. Yes, that hangs on payton cause he should get a better D cord which is his responsiblilty

think you missed the point, if we win, no one criticizes, if the play doesn't work, everyone comes out of the woodworks to hang Payton

If they do not improve defensively soon then Payton needs to make a change and get rid of Gibbs. There is enough talent on that side of the ball to be at least be a mediocre defense.

but it was still Payton's idea to bring him here....and he also wanted Romo. Say what you want about the man, but he has an eye for talent.

Thats what I am saying Roach. If you have a D you don't need to run a triple reverse on 3rd and 1

Didn't he draft the 07 class?

Dont know if I should try responding to such a fricking idiot, seeing as how you've flamed the board today, but I'll give it a shot.
You can't just say we weren't going to stop Denver's Offense. Anyways, what should we have done on that 3rd down and 1?

yep, and the 06 and 08, which you conveniently failed to mention, not that the 07 class is bad, Meachem is rising, and Usama Young would be playing if not hurt

I guess it's debatable if you want to call them good, but i'll go with the ones who have made a significant impact, and which ones have great potential
06
Reggie Bush-Great Player, maybe Pro Bowler soon
Roman Harper-Starting safety, injury bug has hurt him
Jahri Evans-All Pro Guard
Zach Strief-Backup O-lineman, played well last week in place of Brown at Left Tackle
Marques Colston-he's okay, more catches in 1st 2 years than any receiver in history
07
Robert Meachem-Finally getting in the rotation this year, playing well, has a couple of huge catches in the 2 games he's played
Usama Young-Playing nickel and some starting corner when not injured
Marvin Mitchell- Backup MLB, played some early on, has shown ability to provide quality depth at the position, and could become a starter with more time
Jermon Bushrod- Backup O-lineman, nothing to show yet, but could with more time
08
Sedrick Ellis-Starting DT, shown excellent flashes of great playmaking, will be great for a while
Tracy Porter-starting CB, and has shown great potential to one day be a Pro Bowl CB, has made a mistake or 2, but most of the time is right on his man
Demarrio Pressley-DT, hurt for season, unknown at this point
Carl Nicks-in very short time has become 2nd string Guard, and will start this week
Adrian Arrington-flashes of brilliance until he had turf toe and is done for the year

what's that like, 13 out of 20 or 21, not bad, better than most in the league if I had to guess
