Hey Andrus!
Welcome to Saints Talk!
Don't worry we usually hate all of our draft picks as of late.

The relevant question is, will he be a quality starter before our hall of fame qb's playing days are over.
Best player available or player with the most overall potential is not an optimal strategy if you're trying to build a championship caliber team in a limited time window. Especially when you have glaring holes at 5+ other positions. Even if he turns out to be an above average starting left tackle the pick was a mistake.
You could even make the argument the pick was a mistake if he turns out to be a pro-bowl left tackle. It is impossible to win in the NFL without a QB.
Let's say hypothetically Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco were in the 2007 draft instead of 2008. Would the browns have been correct to draft Joe Thomas, even if they knew he would be a perennial probowler?
You get your quarterback, then build around him. You don't build pieces for the future and then cross your figures that you'll get a quarterback down the road.
We have our quarterback, and this front office is wasting him

For his third post, it was pretty solid.
He's not as seasoned as someone with 5721 posts, but I have a feeling he'll get there.
