We did one of these 2 weeks ago before we held the rookie mini-camp. Since then, we've cut 12 players & added 6 players. We'll have a full roster of 90 after Tre'Quan Smith signs his rookie deal.

12 players cut - TE Coby Fleener, TE Alex Ellis, OG Nate Theaker, OG Daronte Bouldin, OT John Theus, OT Jeremy Irwin, LB Michael Mauti, LB Adam Bighill, LB Sae Tautu, LB Shayne Skov, CB Bradley Sylve, S Rickey Jefferson.

6 players added - FB Ryan Yurachek, WR Eldridge Massington, OG/OC Josh LeRibeus, OT Michael Ola, DT Jay Bromley, LB KeShun Freeman

I have 35 players that I consider locks. I had 38 players last time. I took Line off b/c we signed another FB, I took off Rick Leonard b/c he actually has legit competition now that we signed Michael Ola (also Nate Wozniak switched from TE to OT), & I also took off PJ Williams b/c some people on here don't think he's a lock.
QB(1) - Brees
RB(2) - Ingram, Kamara
WR(4) - Thomas, Ginn, Meredith, Tre'Quan Smith
TE(1) - Ben Watson (I consider Hill a lock, but some on here don't)
OC/OG(4) - Unger, Warford, Peat, Bushrod
OT(2) - Armstead, Ramczyk
K, P, LS(3) - Lutz, Morstead, Zach Wood
DT(3) - Rankins, Davison, Onyemata
DE(4) - Jordan, Okafor, Davenport, Hendrickson
LB(5) - Davis, Klein, Anzalone, Robertson, Te'o
DB(6) - Lattimore, Crawley, PRob, M. Williams, Bell, Kurt Coleman

Which guys do you think win the following position battles?

#2/#3 QB - Choose 2
-Savage, Taysom Hill, JT Barrett

#3/#4 RB - Choose 2
-Boston Scott, Lasco, Trey Edmunds, Jonathan Williams

#1 FB - Choose 1
-Zach Line, Ryan Yurachek

#5/maybe #6 WR - Choose 1 or 2
-Coleman, Carr, Tommylee, Josh Huff, Travin Dural, Paul Turner, Keith Kirkwood, Dan Arnold, Eldridge Massington

#2/#3 TE - Choose 2
-Hill, Hooman, Garrett Griffin, Deon Yelder

#5/maybe #6 Interior O-Line - Choose 1 or 2. Pretty sure that LeRibeus, Clapp, & Helms play both OC & OG.
-Cameron Tom, Josh LeRibeus, Will Clapp, John Fullington, Landon Turner, Cory Helms, Andrew Tiller

#3 OT - Choose 1
-Rick Leonard, Michael Ola, Nate Wozniak

#4 DT - Choose 1
-Jay Bromley, Mitchell Loewen, Taylor Stallworth, Woodrow Hamilton, DeVaroe Lawrence, Henry Mondeaux

#5/maybe #6 DE - Choose 1 or 2. Keep in mind that Okafor could start the season on IR-to return.
-Kikaha, Muhammad, George Johnson, Alex Jenkins

#6/maybe #7 LB - Choose 1 or 2
-Stupar, Jayrone Elliot, KeShun Freeman, Colton Jumper

#7/#8/#9/#10/maybe #11 DB - Choose 4 or 5. We, most likely, keep Banjo for special teams imo.
-PJ Williams, Hardee, Maulet, Natrell Jamerson, Kamrin Moore, DeVante Harris, Linden Stephens, Banjo, Mykkele Thompson, JT Gray

QB - Savage as #2, & Taysom Hill as #3. I'm assuming that the loser between Hill & JT Barrett goes to the PS.

RB - Boston Scott as the #3, & Lasco as the #4. The RB that runs the ball the best during the pre-season will get that #3 job (Scott or J. Williams imo). Lasco & Edmunds will be battling it out for #4 RB (special teams). I'm assuming the loser goes to the PS.

FB - Zach Line as the #1. Yurachek is going to have to be a pre-season all-star to beat out Zach Line imo.

WR - Coleman as the #5. If we keep 6 WR's...I'm assuming Carr is that guy. I wouldn't be surprised Tommylee has a huge pre-season & wins the job either. Looks like we have 3 pretty solid options to choose from. Josh Huff would be a guy that makes the team b/c of his special teams play.

TE - Hill as the #2, & Deon Yelder as the #3. Obviously Hooman has a decent chance as well. I'm assuming Yelder goes to the PS if he can't beat out Hill or Hooman. Yelder could get poached if we try to sneak him on the PS though.

OC/OG - Cameron Tom as the #5. If we do keep a 6th interior OL...it will definitely be an OG. My 2 favorites at this point would be Josh LeRibeus & Will Clapp.

OT - Michael Ola as the #3. I think Ola ends up beating out Rick Leonard & Nate Wozniak. Leonard & Wozniak are pretty good developmental guys to keep around on the PS though. Leonard could get poached, so we might end up keeping him as our #4 OT instead of keeping 4 OG's. I'd be very surprised if we didn't carry at least 9 O-Lineman to start the year.

DT - Jay Bromley as the #4. Obviously, Loewen has a pretty good chance to make the team. Stallworth has the potential to win this position battle as well. I think Jay Bromley is actually going to be a complete steal that we found for free.

DE - Muhammad as the #5, & George Johnson as the #6 (if we keep that many). I doubt that we keep both Kikaha & Muhammad this year, so whoever loses that pass rush battle gets cut imo. George Johnson can give you a good spot start as our base 4-3 DE. If Okafor isn't on the 53 man roster at the start of the year...we might actually keep all 3 of Kikaha, Muhammad, & George Johnson.

LB - Stupar as the #6, & Jayrone Elliot as the #7. We could save some money by cutting Stupar, but he's easily the best LB in this group & he plays special teams. If we keep 7 LB's...it's probably going to be a guy that plays special teams. I'll guess that Elliot beats out KeShun Freeman & Colton Jumper. The coaches, obviously, liked something about KeShun Freeman at rookie mini-camp though (they cut both Mauti & Bighill after they got a look at Freeman).

DB - PJ Williams as the #7, Maulet as the #8, Hardee as the #9, Jamerson as the #10, & Banjo as the #11. Hardee & Banjo are all special teams. Natrell Jamerson is supposed to start out by playing outside CB, but I'm guessing that he winds up at Safety. I'll take Maulet over Kamrin Moore, b/c Maulet plays outside & Kamrin Moore is a nickel/slot guy. PJ Williams is a good utility guy to have as a backup imo. Personally, I think PJ is a lock.

*I don't have CB/S Kamrin Moore making the team b/c of the numbers. If he ends up being legit in the pre-season...I'm assuming that we'll find a way to keep him on the team.

Commentary:

QB: I hope that Hill and Barrett show enough to take the two spots, but I just don't see Sean not having a veteran backup.

RB: Scott for sure, toss up between the others IMO

FB: Line will take it, IMO

WR: I think Coleman will return, toss up between Tommylee and Carr - MAYBE Huff

TE: I think Hooman will stick for blocking and all around ability. Here's me being hopeful that Yeldon is the real deal.

Interior OL: LeReibus and Clapp for versatility (and to silence the LSU rantards)

OT: Complete toss up to me at this point. I could see Leonard to start on IR due to "injury"

DT: Toss up

DE: I think the Kikaha experiment ends this year. George Johnson played well last year as a backup. Muhammad might stick as well or instead of Johnson.

LB: Toss up.

DB: Jamerson intrigues me. He might have a shot.
