Pass rush vs run stopper in draft

I keep reading about the Saints drafting and OLB or DE. We do need both. But shouldn't our first priority be to get Sed some help. That's why I'm hoping that we get Shaun Rogers. A big dude who can stop the run and collapse the pocket on passing downs should also help out our DEs, right?
Also, the 3 teams that we play twice a year want to run more than they want to pass.
Oh, and before you call me various names, keep in mind that I don't even know what a post route is. I'm still learning.

The Saints draft much more on value than need though need does play into the equation. The need might be best stated as the best front seven defensive player available. The player who is selected is often more a result of the how the supply/demand ratio of the teams that select in front of you works out.
Of DE, DT, & LB and evaluating that ratio I would say the odds just favor the best value DE being available. It's a deep class. They could have a good shot at the #3 or 4 ranked DT but that still might not be as good of a value on the big board as what the #6 or 7 DE might be. I'm only seeing 2 possible pure LBs. Akeem Ayers who by most counts would be a good value. Also, Martez Wilson who might be more of a stretch at the 24 spot.
I had an uncle who did a post route when he was young. He seemed to like the desk work later more.

If we got Shaun Rogers and Dlo Williams in free agency, pick up a beast DE and LB or two in the draft that'd be awesome

Thanks for not being straight up asses at this point, though it is still early.

was thinking on this, made me curious...
2010 Pass/Run Plays
atl 577/497
tb 494/431
car 484/428
better might be the Saints outright need-
my favorite stat of the year...
Total Defense Yds Per Game, 4th just behind Pitt and NYJ, best in the NFC
Passing D Yds Per Game, 4th, tops in the NFC
Rushing D yds Per Game, 16th then 20th in allowing runs over 20yds (13), 17th in ypc allowed at 4.3,
If it's the highest ranked front 7 guy regardless of position I'll be happy.
Case for a pass rusher...
Total Pass D 4th overall, best in NFC but-
LAST IN THE NFL for interceptions (9), We know Greer & Porter have ball skills, Jenkins does too but gotta give him some slack until fully engaged at FS. This falloff is due to pressure on the front falloff IMO. GW implements one of the heaviest blitzing schemes in the league. So sacks? 18th with 33. Will Smith needs help and he isn't getting younger. Ideally, a young stud that could come in and threaten for 10+ sacks would be the perfect pick. Let Smith transition to the other side as he ages.

A run stopper makes the most sense based on these stats. It seemed like we were getting the dink and dunk treatment a good portion of the season. Offenses knew we had thrived off turnovers(INT) mainly so they ran and were happy with a 2-4 yard gain. They used a balance attack which we had benefited from so well in 2009.

dunno, the last part case for a pass rusher is pretty legit. As said, if it's the top front 7 D guy on the board I'll be happy

Also, we have Jr at DE and JC at OLB licking their chops. I guess I'm saying that their is hope already on the roster at OLB and DE. What do we have at DT or NT already?

The one thing that has been missing it seems the last three years...please agree or disagree to me is speed into the backfield from the front seven.
Who ever we draft I would think will be versatle in G.W.s system but above all will have an explosive first step and speed.
I lean to D.E. being addressed with several picks in the draft.

I think a Big Hawg in the middle will go along way in solidfying the D...but if we can get that in Shaun Rogers then we can go DE or LB or RB in first round
