On the other issue, of course I'm judging Taco for who he was in college. That's very important.
Yes that can change, but if you ignore what they actually did and just try to project what could be you are going to get a lot more busts than booms.
I have hope Taco can live up to his billing, but he is not nfl ready now. He'd be a pass rush specialist starting out that you hope to develop into something more.
He is very unproven in the run game. He is very inconsistent. He didn't have great production (good yes). You are taking him strictly because he shows promise and has good to great measurables.
I'd much prefer proven over promise, but I'm not going to say Charlton can't be a good player. He might be. He might not be.
Derek Barnett will be a good player. Will he ever be great? Maybe close to great. But he will definitely be good.
So you have one guy who is an immediate starter and will play well but maybe never great vs. another guy who will come in as a role player and will either be stuck in that role for a long time or develop into a good to great player.

I never said that I only watched a few games. I've actually already watched 5+ games of Barnett and all of Taco's games. I don't know where you guys are coming up with this.
I never said you watched X amount.
My post was strictly to the point that watching every snap of a game is not watching tape on a guy.
I didn't say you watched more or less.

That's not what your post said.
And you still haven't said what "watching tape" means then.
Does watching all of the draftbreakdown videos not count?

You said:
I responded that watching a player every down of one(a) game is not watching tape. That's casual viewing.
If you aren't watching at least half a season you aren't really watching tape. You can't know a player from 1 game. Not from 3 games. Hell 6 games is barely enough to form a good opinion.
But I NEVER said you watched X amount. I was just responding to that post.

Oh alright. I thought I had established earlier that this was over multiple games. Sorry for the confusion.

No worries. All good.
And like I said I'm not against taking Taco. I like what I see (minus not being consistent to this point; he doesn't have that go hard every play like Barnett) and really like his potential.
I just think it would be a mistake to take someone at 11 that is more potential than proven. I don't want a Dion Jordan. I don't think he'll be that bad but the potential is just as much there for him to be Jordan as it is for him to be C Jones.
In Barnett you have a guy that you "know" will be good and is plug and play. Once he learns more pass rush moves he could become sneaky good.
And of course I forgot to mention a big factor all this time: age.
Barnett turns 21 in June, and Charlton turns 23 in November. That's two extra prime years and Barnett has longer to develop depsite Charlton being the one who needs more time for that.

So what's your opinion on Malik McDowell? This might sound crazy but I think he's the best overall DL in this draft. My wish is to have the Saints grab Malik and play him at DE and 3 tech.

Posted on 3/30/17 at 11:23 pm to rmnldr
Super anchor. One of the best I've seen. And he can drive guys back with his strength at times. Lacks rush moves. Takes plays off (but still anchors). Very often does not hustle if the play isn't near him.
But if you can keep him motivated and teach him some more moves he could be great.
Too much risk at 11 for sure. I'd definitely consider him at 32. He's more of an interior player but can play big end. I would not put him at rush end, which is what we REALLY need.
Edit:
And when I say super anchor I mean that fricker does not move even an inch back even when taking doubles. His anchor is fricking insane.
He's also very good at splitting doubles. You could easily play him at nose and strongside end. He'd be good at 3 tech also but I'd rather see him at nose.
Being honest both Fairley and Rankins are really 3 tech and we lack that true anchoring nose. He'd be a great fit there.
Edit2:
I'll add that while he can anchor and not get pushed back, he does struggle with footwork and can be pushed sideways out of plays very easily.
It's something that can be corrected though.

PUT down ur crack PIPE. We're not taking a run stuffing nose tackle in round 1
You either draft your franchises QB or somebody that scores or prevents TDs. Davison is already on the roster

He isn't just a run stuffer. Dude can get to the QB and can move across multiple spots on the line. We can kick him out to rush end in big sets. He can spell Cam. He can play 3 tech. He can anchor your defense and potentially be dominant from the nose like Wilfork (would you not take Wilfork in the first).
He has tons of talent. Just because I said he can anchor the nose does not mean he is strictly a run stuffing nose.
Get the frick over yourself.

Y'all are looking at Taco for what he is now as a prospect. I'm viewing Taco as a project. I'm looking at what he can do now and projecting the development of his traits into his rookie season.
So you saying the saints should waste the 11th pick on a project that you don't for sure know is gonna pan out the way you would want him to? I'll take the guy who we know what he's gonna be in Barnett, FYI: teams with good defense takes project guys like taco, not teams that needs the guy to be a turning point. Not saying he won't be good but we don't have the type of team to be taking project players

I probably wouldn't take taco with the 32 pick, 42? MAYBE

11 Barnett
32 McDowell
42 Tre White

You are a muthafrickin liar. If you would have actually gone through several games from just this past year alone, you would have saw that when Tennessee needed a play of defense, it was Barnett making a play. He did it all whether it was a tackle for loss against a back, a sack or sack fumble or just applying pressure to force a bad throw. When the game was on the line, Barnett rose to the occasion.
You are also severely underrating Barnett's lockeroom presence. He is a leader of men just like Brees is & that intangible is invaluable & cannot be measured by "watching tape." Give me the consistent guy who will get 10+ sacks a season, be stout against the run, be a team leader & who steps up most when the game is on the line, over an inconsistent one hit wonder. I would take Barnett over Taco every day of the week & twice on Sundays.
Also, a player only gets this type of reaction from teammates when he is highly respected & from the fans because they recognize his greatest on & off the field of play.
Respect

I agree with everything you said. The biggest risk with McDowell is that he is Junior Galette all over again from a character standpoint. Fighting teammates & arguing with coaches can tear a team apart from the inside out.

How can I underrate it if I never rated it?
Your whole post is filled with nothing but crap. As if Taco isn't a guy his team loves and respects. As if there aren't tons of other guys who made plays like Barnett. You posted all that shite and made not one point that would sway someone towards Barnett over Charlton.

I agree with your evaluation of the risk associated with Taco. But I think you're understating how low the ceiling of Barnett is. He, at best, won't even be as good as Jordan imo. He is too athletically limited. I like him, but I'd like to maybe pick a player at 11 that has slightly more risk but actually has superstar potential (not Taco). Barnett will never be a superstar no matter what.
