After game 1 it looks like all of the camp hype on Cadet was just that.

I don't know if I'd jump ship so fast. The Rams D played a lot of 7 man fronts and Cadet is an edge runner. K Rob and Ingram had success because the OL was on its game and opened holes between the tackles.

When this thing cranks up for real, Defenses won't be giving Brees 7 man fronts too much and Cadet will have the edge. If they do, you won't have to worry about a running game...Brees will throw for 600 yds a game.

He has no burst, no shakes, and goes down easy. On two of the screens PT would have busted those for a lot more. He barely did anything with all the space he had.

I see the same guy I saw his rookie year that took advantage of 3rd stringers to get a roster spot. When playing against the big boys he just doesn't have it.

All you need to know is that if other teams don't at least double Akiem Hicks, they are going to have a very, very bad time

Saw Uko make some plays as well.
Was gonna say this. He looks like quality depth, maybe a chance for more.

I will add that Toon did not live up to all the hype from camp

It pains me to say it but we're starting to see a pattern. I expect to see Toon get a lot of snaps this preseason. If he can't make an impact, the project may be shelved.

That's my feeling too unfortunately. Eventually you have to acknowledge the pattern.

He had 3 catches on 3 targets and on at least 2 of them he was literally smashed as soon as he turned(maybe on the third also).

Not sure what else people expected him to do. The fact that he caught the ball clean and held on while being hit is pretty good.

And on the penalty he had, he originally hit the guy's side and the guy turned and flopped while Toon was pulling up.

There's a lot of time for him to separate himself from the pack.
I will say that making the final 53 is going to be tough; one of the most competitive spots on the team right now. I'm pulling for him.

One of the few times you & I saw something totally different. Toon simply had to look across the field at Cooks to show him how it's done.

Toon's first catch was very similar to the route of Cooks' TD. Big difference is that Cooks has brakes, burst, and creativity in open space. Whereas Toon basically runs the same route only with no RAC open space ability and of course he's gonna get tackled immediately. Cooks wouldn't have been tackled immediately and wasn't when he ran a similar route.

Then Toon almost fumbles. Whereas Cooks' hand are like a black hole with no chance for the ball to escape.

There was another out route where Toon initially runs his depth a yard past the first down yellow marker and catches the ball beyond it. But in his lame attempt to turn upfield and avoid the immediate impending tackle, he actually steps behind the yellow line, forcing the refs to review the spot that should have not been in question. Whereas, Cooks runs the exact same route near the goal line (only from the left slot into the middle), gets enough depth and falls forward after the immediate tackle but leaving no doubt that it was a first down catch.

If that wasn't enough, Josh Hill is making the biggest gain of the game, and at the very end, Toon spoils it by literally placing his elbow into the spine of a defender that is clearly a step in front of Toon. Just dumb.

Now look, Toon may show something positive in the next game, but all he showed this game was average hands, no RAC ability, no change of direction, no awareness of the markers, and no burst, no acceleration, and no awareness of blocking angles.
