You been out to turchin yet this year?

Not yet, Cell Bio is kicking my arse

DE is a far more important position than LB. Waiting until later rounds to get one is a really bad idea, IMO.

some of the best DE come in the late rounds, it's the early ones that are more often busts

Starting from the 05 draft:

Justin Tuck- round 3
Trent Cole- round 5
06'
Mario Williams- round 1
Elvis Dummervil- round 4
Ray Edwards- round 4
07'
Lamar Woodley- round 2
Jacib Ford- round 6
08'
Chris Long- round 1
09'
Brian Orakpo- round 1

so overall:
early round (1-3): 5
Late round (3-7): 4

it's all a crapshoot bro

I was reading a Pro Football Weekly annual mag on the shelf from 2007 and the San Diego writer wrote:

"You won't find anyone in the Chargers locker room or around the NFL who would suggest that Williams isn't the key to San Diego's stingy attack. He uses a powerful build, brute strength, and remarkable quickness off the ball to alter the line of scrimmage. He beats double teams regularly, and finds the ball very quickly. Williams doesn't have a ton of moves, but doesn't need them".

Now, take that with a grain of salt cuz that was written in 2007, but there's no doubt he was "The Man" once, and it was written after Merriman, Edwards, Phillips, Jammer, and Cromartie all had a good years in 2006 when SD finished in the Top 10 in total defense.

Not sure if it's too significant, but Denver has signed Jarvis Green. I think this may take a little money off the table for Williams, or they may have gone after the two saying "We'll get either the DE or the NT, then go after the other position in the first round." Or it could mean jack shite.

nah, not really.

quote:

Justin Tuck- round 3

he has had success, but he might of set the bar too high for himself in '07 and '08. his sacks went from 10, to 12, then down to 6 in 2009....reminds me of Grant...jury is still out on Tuck IMO.

quote:

Trent Cole- round 5

now Cole is good example of finding a top tier DE in the later rounds...I have no argument here, dude is a beast.

quote:

Mario Williams- round 1

Super Mario is a great example of why a team should select a DE early in the 1st round. The 1st overall pick and hasn't disappointed one bit.

quote:

Elvis Dummervil- round 4

I can't give you Elvis b/c he is an OLB playing in a 3-4 defense. and yes there is a difference.

quote:

Ray Edwards- round 4

Ray is just a good player, but plays great b/c he benefits from playing along side the Williams wall. The man produces no doubt, but he could easily be classified as a system guy.

quote:

Jacib Ford- round 6

great value he brings from a 6th round pick. He's averaging 6 sacks a season in his first 2 years, but he is only a situational pass rusher. He only had 22 tackles last year while appearing in 15 games. He's not starting material...not yet at least.

quote:

Lamar Woodley- round 2

1. he's not a DE, he is a OLB that plays in a 3-4.
2. He was drafted in the 2nd round...his production fits the draft spot.

quote:

Chris Long- round 1

he hasn't been able to show his full potential as a 1st round pick yet b/c he plays for the rebuilding Rams. but has shown flashes of what he is capable of doing.

quote:

Brian Orakpo- round 1

he plays LB for the skins, and he is definitely a legit 1st round pick.

having said all that. we need to go DE in the first an find a young legit starter to play opposite of the Fresh Prince.
