both will be factors. he is young so i expect him to bounce back into playing shape quickly but as you said he was on the side on individual drills which has the unique characteristic of being individual. Meaning no one is there to hit him and be hit by him.

The factors of which you speak are indeed true. The sidelines are by definition 'on the side' and as such must be unique. The concept being plain to most.
