Ingram and Ingram are the only locks

I'll be damned Lester that was funny!
And correct.

I know we are all tired of..."if he stays healthy" but Lasco really looks like he has a chance to stick. Am hoping to also have a Spiller sighting in preseason. Would be nice.

Murphy is a great talent as a return man

Maybe in preseason. He failed to impress me otherwise. And when RBs got injured, he didn't get carries, they instead brought in Hightower and Cadet. He sucks.

Normally it's 4 HBs, 1 FB, 6 WRs, and 3 TEs.

But our WRs are weak (real weak; don't even see an obvious 5th) and HBs strong so it'll likely be 5 HBs this year (which we have done before).

Edit:
To break that down even more the TEs and FBs are grouped together under Payton. We keep two who are good receivers and two who are good blockers (but hope all can do at least a little of both).

So if we don't have a listed FB we would keep 4 TEs. I don't see an obvious 4th but you never know.

Whoever takes that 4th spot has to be good on special team though. That's why I think Johnson stays on as FB.

Did Lasco return kicks/punts?

All the highlights they showed in the draft were of him rushing/receiving and making ST tackles.

He looks like he could return kicks, don't think punts are likely.

Btw, what was his injury? Judging on his highlights, he's way more than a 7th rd talent. If he gets back to 100%, I could see him pushing to alternate with Ingram.

BTW, could Murphy move to WR?

Hip (which could be troublesome) and ankle (which should be fine). Both this past year.

He was a mid rounder without the injuries, but hips can be tricky.

Also along the lines of ST (not RB)- are any of the DBs able to return punts? I would think someone there might be able to, freeing up a spot.

Unlikely. His route tree isn't a receiver route tree (from what I can tell).

Cadet is the only receiver we have that really can run multiple receiver routes (though Spiller can do a few).

Byrd can fair catch them. Don't think any of the DBs that will obviously make the squad can. Not sure about the fringe guys and UDFAs.

That's been his major contribution to the Saints.

We just tell him they count as picks.

Thanks for the info

Sounds like a good gamble for a 7th rd pick; if he recovers, he's a solid 4th rd guy, a good change of pace guy and 3rd down back to alternate in and out with Ingram. If he doesn't, he's just another 7th rd pick that doesn't make the roster.
I prefer that over a pick that might be for ST only, and only for a couple of seasons until we land another.

Hightower might be a good influence on him, came back from what should have ended his career. Being around someone like that, even for possibly a short stint in camp, might be enough to make him push all the way back himself.

Murphy- there's the quandary. He's our return guy, but isn't so good as a returner that you have to make room for him just for that. I think he HAS to be able to play on offense, or he's gone.

It wasn't a major hip injury and he did run drills leading up to the draft, so the hip is "healed". But until he starts taking bumps again you just don't know how it'll hold up.

From the looks of how well he tested I can't say it appears to be bugging him.

Lasco had no punt returns at Cal and had five kick off returns for 65 yards. Interestingly, he went to the same high school as Danny Amendola.

I wonder if V. Bell can return punts? Looks like he did it in high school, but not college.
