Never forget the SNF game vs Dallas and the official arrival of the who dat nation. One of my favorite saints games.

Payton did not necessarily inherit a bare cupboard. He inherited a team that was nomadic the year before.

Haslett had good defenses and the core was there. Also he still had l on offense in Horn and Deuce. Also his offense was tailor made for Brees relying on high percentage throws. Plus he was very good in developing screen pass schemes which played into Reggie Bush's strengths.

Where he really lucked out was with the LBs that year..Fajita, Shanle and Simoneau played above themsves

Didn’t have the defensive personnel. Vilma trade was a huge step in the right direction.
