To all the Houston-area Saints fans,

Who Dat!!! Looking at the 2018 Saints Schedule and how it stacks up with Fox/CBS/NBC/ESPN, the Saints have a total of eight (8) NFL games that will be televised on a national basis. Two (2) on ESPN, two (2) on NBC, two (2) on Fox and two (2) on CBS.

So what about the other eight games? From studying the coverage maps since 2006, I have figured out, to a degree, how KRIV Fox 26 and KHOU 11 (CBS) choose their Sunday afternoon matchups. Here is how it breaks down for Saints fans living in Houston, I'll show the Saints game and compare it to Fox's (and sometimes CBS's) other options, and who they probably pick. I also show which network (Fox or CBS) has the Doubleheader that weekend, that is important because if the Saints play at 12 and Cowboys play at 3pm, Fox can choose both Saints and Cowboys and not choose between one or the other. Same goes for Saints and Texans if both happen to play on same network, but usually Saints play on Fox and Texans play on CBS. Games in bold show guaranteed games Houston area Saints fans will be able to see:

WK 1: TB@NO (Fox, DH weekend) others: JAX@NYG, SF@MIN, TN@MIA I think Fox 26 chooses the Saints

WK 2: CLE@NO (Fox, non DH weekend) others: MIN@GB, CAR@ATL, PHI@TB I think Fox chooses MIN@GB (Even though Saints are hosting an AFC team, this will indeed be on Fox.

WK 3: NO@ATL (Fox, DH) No way Fox 26 chooses Saints over NYG@HOU. Sorry Saints fans.

WK 4: NO@NYG America's game of the week, Fox 26 will air NO@NYG over SF@LAC

WK 5: WSH@NO Monday Night, ESPN

WK 6: Bye

WK 7: NO@BAL (Fox, Non DH weekend) Fox 26 will choose this game because the Texans play at noon on CBS, and since Fox doesn't have the DH, they will choose the 3pm game so it doesn't compete with the home team. This is a guaranteed game for Hou Dats on Fox 26.

WK 8: NO@MIN NBC Sunday Night Football

WK 9: LAR@NO (Fox, DH weekend) America's game of the week, no competition.

WK 10: NO@CIN (Fox, non DH weekend) other choices: AZ@KC,
DET@CHI, WSH@TB, ATL@CLE, 12pm; LAC@OAK, 3pm. Not a lot of competition this weekend, and with the Texans having a bye week and Dallas playing on Sunday Night, I think with these options, Fox 26 chooses the Saints.

WK 11: NO@PHI (Fox, DH weekend) Fox 26 has been known to stick it to Cowboys fans, but more often than not, they choose the DAL game, which is DAL@ATL. This game is playing at 12pm and will not be moved for either DAL or NO because both teams are playing on Thanksgiving, just four days later. No Saints game on local TV this weekend, baws.

WK 12: ATL@NO NBC Thanksgiving Night

WK 13: NO@DAL Fox/NFL Network Thursday Night

WK 14: NO@TB (Fox, DH Weekend) The Texans have a home game at noon on CBS, so the Fox window at noon is blacked out.

WK 15: NO@CAR ESPN Monday Night Football

WK 16: PIT@NO CBS America's Game of the Week 3:25pm only other competition BAL@LAC which may get moved to Saturday. Saints fans will be watching on KHOU11

WK 17: CAR@NO (Fox, DH weekend) DAL@NYG is also scheduled for 12pm, but this is a DH weekend for CBS and Fox as its the last weekend of the year. Also, if there is a Sunday Night Game (there wasn't last year), either of these games could get moved to SNF but as it stands, Fox 26 will probably go with DAL@NYG. Also, Texans play at home, so that will close any Fox window at noon. They could get flexed to 3pm or Sunday Night Football as well, so the best thing a Hou Dat can do is count on streaming this one.

To conclude, I believe 11 of 16 games will be aired on local TV (either CBS, Fox, NBC or ESPN), which means if you're a Saints fan and you're on the fence about getting NFL Sunday Ticket, I would bypass it. The five other games can easily be streamed on your favorite Reddit outlet.

I really appreciate the effort because this is my life in the fall: waiting for the 506 to tell me if I will need to find a way to watch the game on Sunday.

Did they change the rule or policy about not having a game on the other channel during a Texans game? For instance, in week 1, the Saints and Texans play at noon. You mentioned that you expect Fox to pick the Saints, but I assumed they wouldn't have that option because in the past, the Saints were never on at the same time as the Texans.

I'm in the Tampa market, so seemingly would be in the same boat as the Houston market for most of these games. But how is streaming through Reddit? Never done it. Is the quality decent - good with minimal skipping and lag time?

This is a good question, but the Saints will not be affected in Week 1.

Since the Texans are playing at New England on CBS, Fox's game in the same time slot will not be blacked out.

However if it were NE@HOU on CBS KHOU, Fox 26 would not be allowed to air a game during the noon window.

Your miles may vary, but I have had success with it.

Practice streaming right now.

Google: Reddit NFL Streams, click on NFL Network, and watch the NFL Network on your desktop/laptop/phone.

I think you'll be impressed, and come Week 1, you will be ready.

No reason to buy Sunday ticket in 2018 anyways. Hope it’s on TV then find a stream when it’s not.

Why all the animosity, TH03?

So in a scenario like the one in Wk 3, it wouldn't be the case that the NYG@HOU game would come on KHOU instead of Fox?

thanks for the effort. Saints in Houston wasn’t too big of a problem last year since they were playing well. When they aren’t, it’s usually off to reddit or catch glimpses on redzone

For the most part, when an AFC hosts an NFC team, the game will be aired on Fox.

I stream games from Taipei, and it's crystal clear.

No animosity, just letting people know they don’t need to spend their money. Sunday ticket price increases have been absurd the last few years. Save your money, peeps.
