I'll take all of the hate that I will get for it but it needs to be said.
Brian Daboll and Mike Mcdaniel were both right there and we didnt hire them. Missed opportunities in my opinion.
I'm not completely against DA I just think these two guys will be big time in the league for a while.

DA seems like one of those coaches who needs to only be a coordinator, he ain’t built to be a HC

McDaniel only interviewed with MIA and clearly wanted to be there.
Daboll had his choice of jobs. He was raised in NY. Clearly he wanted to coach in NY.

Might be the case. But not interviewing either doesn't give you any chance of knowing
Posted on 9/25/22 at 8:48 pm to JuliusPepperwood
So if he only took one interview, you gonna kidnap a dude and make him interview?

He accepted the first job he interviewed for. Not sure what you mean by he only took one

McDaniel was the hottest name on the market. He had any job he wanted. Daboll was right behind him and, again, had whatever job McDaniel did not pick.
Neither wanted to come here.
We probably could have gotten Nathaniel Hackett, though

It's also fair to think that no one in the NFL thought the Saints were actually doing a real job search.
Would this job have been attractive for coaches otherwise?

With the way the defense is still playing, if we have a different OC/QB, everyone’s singing a different tune
It ALL revolves around the play calling and the QB

It’s almost like he knew exactly where he wanted to go and went there.
You think only Miami reached out?

No

I’ve come to believe the big mistake was turning the offense over to Pete Carmichael. I think Carmichael is not a guy to be in charge of one side of the ball. We know it was Payton who was truly the OC all these years. I think that’s why Pete initially turned it down. He likely knew he didn’t have the chops for it. But he got talked into it by the Saints front office/Allen believing continuity was best. It’s clearly not working right now and I’m not confident it will change.

Pretty bold to say they wouldn't have considered taking the saints job over either one of those if they had been interviewed. Never know unless you try, but you seem like a glass half full kind of guy so I'm sure you knew that.

Possibly, which is why I say I am not fully out on DA by any means. However if he is the guy we will need an offensive coordinator along with him

I don't even think SP really wanted to come here initially. I do think Loomis does a good job of always trying to keep a competitive roster even though he stretches the cap. Not sure why fans complain about that, we could go back to the old days of getting rid of every good player we have and never bringing in good players to save money. When you have a lot of talent, that can bring in good coaches.

I was thinking the same thing. I was fine with AD being the guy but if you pass on the offensive head coaches we need another OC. Sean Payton was the play caller for years we all know that

I agree, for DA to be successful he is going to have to go out and find a really good OC. Problem is, most of the good ones seem to be going into the head coaching roles. May can find one that didn't pan out as HC and recently got fired after the season. DA can keep the defense strong, but I don't have much faith in Carmichael and not because of this particular season so far.
I do hope it gets figured out and turned around. If Winston's back is truly holding him back maybe it will heal up before too long. But damn it's been rough watching our O with all that talent.

That's what it seems like the NFL is headed towards, any offensive coach is going to want to be the HC, and call their own plays themselves.

But what I can't understand is why they can't get kamara going. Winston has a hurt back, but passing game with kamara and thomas and then he can clearly still throw it deep to olave. Not sure what the problem is
Posted on 9/26/22 at 12:09 pm to BlacknGold
Not sure who else reached out, but I know the saints didn't. I'd say it was more of him accepting his first HC offer more than him knowing exactly where he wanted to go.
