Absolutely and they should. We have 2 more years with a generational talent at QB.

bullshite, they are building a dominate defense. One which can carry the team when we have to bring in a groom a new QB.

This team would have absolutely no options if Brees fell off this year.

drafting one this year wouldn't give them a option either.

Whatever year Brees retires, we can easily pick up whoever the Casw Keenan, AJ McCarron, Alex Smith, or Kurt Cousins type that is availble that year depending on how much we want to spend.

QB’s will want to play with Payton and as long as our D and support on O are solid, we are still a contender. I wouldn’t draft a QB until that year, sign a FA to a big 2 year deal or so and roll on.

if we're trying to plan for stocking our team for post-Brees, then you don't deal a 5th and 1st to move up for a project

Davenport isn't exactly a "project". Just because someone hasn't reached their potential doesnt mean he is a project. I think you are undermining what Davenport can bring to the table. But yeah, we definitely arent stocking up for life after Brees, although a Great defense and good run game is a young, inexperienced QBs dream

This.

They obviously think he’s an elite prospect. If he turns out to be a dominant pass rushing DE like that assume he will then we have a lockdown corner and elite pass rusher. It’s a hell of a lot easier to continue building a defense post Brees with one of those.

I think the move says they think he’s elite and will help now and in the future.
