While I like the intent, it would be hard to go into the season with your team buying in with Carr#2 or 3 with I assume Rattler or some rookie #1. This isn’t Madden with robot players who do what you will from your joystick.
Trading him is ideal, but you have to find a willing partner, and that isn’t likely. Cutting him outright will be painful and could again piss off the team who, whether you like Carr or not, look to him as the O leader.
Keeping him this year? How many wins do you really think Carr elevates this team to? He didn’t win jack shite last season, and this team could have overall less talent. If you’re fantasizing over the #1 pick, I guess that is reachable with Rattler as your starter. But what about team integrity? Not many pros are going to give a lot of effort when it’s clear the team has no plan for the season other than suck to the bottom.
I think we’re stuck with Carr for one more year. I hope the team improves enough with him playing 10-12 games (he’s never finishing a 17 game season here), but I think it’s likely they will be a top 7-10 pick with maybe a ceiling of 15-16. And if the team is that good with Carr? Let him finish his contract since the team is moving in the right direction with the promise of cap space to come. If the team bottoms out? Then you can move on with less of a hit and much more player buy in when they can see he ain’t the guy. Payton did this in Denver.

And what do you do when he declines the trade ? Since some of you have all the answers?
Does he have a no trade clause?
If he fights it, let him know he’ll be a healthy scratch every week and his career will be over.
Next question.

First there is no way to stick with Carr without extending his contract and pushing the cap hit into future years. We are 47 million over the cap and there are no solutions that get you under the cap without 1) a restructure 2)Trade (who wants to pay him that much) 3) Cut with post June 1 designation
The saints say they are keeping him so either they are posturing hoping a team will trade for him (and they plan on cutting him if not) or they will restructure and push it forward (which is the Saints solution to everything). This is the most likely scenario and the one that keeps you mediocre.

Yes he does. And that’s a good way to start a new regime. Players would revolt if they knew the better player was riding the bench while the losses mount starting Rattler. Great way to lose the locker room from the jump.
Great idea.
