It appears the New Orleans Saints carefully monitored the use of tight end Jimmy Graham in to prevent them from having to use the wide receiver franchise tag on him this offseason if the team is unable to work out a long-term deal.

quote:

According to stats kept by Pro Football Focus, Graham lined up in the slot or at wide receiver 49.8 percent of the time during the regular season. The rule on the franchise tag states that a player must be tagged at the position which he plays the most.

However, during the playoffs, Graham lined up in the slot or split wide 69.6 percent of the time. That raised the overall percentage of time he played in the slot or at wide receiver to 52 percent in the 2013 season.
That could create a massive debate over whether Graham gets a tag of more than $10 million or one that’s closer to $6 million. In 2013, the franchise tag for wide receivers was $10.53 million. For tight ends, it was $6.06 million.

Expect a Brees type holdout again.

Why is it up for debate? Shouldn't it be clear whether or not they factor in playoff snaps?

You're telling me Sean Payton altered his offensive strategy for the 2013 season to avoid franchise tagging JG as a wide receiver? Wow...

1) Jimmy will likely be tagged.

2) There will probab all be a disagreement and it will go to an arbitrator.

3) The other thread said Jimmy is fat.

4) He will probably be tagged as a hybrid WR/TE and be around $8.22M.

Who cares where he lined up in the playoffs, he was non existent.

It Jimmys gonna make this ugly, tag him and trade him. See how well he does in an offense that have him every chance to succeed

That's what I'd do. The Saints haven't fared too well on second contracts; we always overpay and the player always under-performs...not a formula for success.

Non existent when needed most.
Put him on the block and see what happens.
Go from there.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with this, but he's has shown that he can be neutralized by physical defenses. He's a giant puss that can't impose his will.

Cause he acted like a real tough guy before the game, and did nothing during the game.

I'm amazed as well.

If this is a GIANT PUSS then I wish we had a team full of them.

86 recp
1215 yards
16 f@cking TD's
0 fumbles
#1 target of Drew Brees.

So 1 game and he's a giant puss? I'll take 2 of him

i wouldn't call jimmy a giant puss but he definitely lacks a partner in crime on the offense. We need a few badasses.

Best secondary in the league.
Kinda why they are badass and have home field and playing in the NFC championship game.

I was made a sad by a fumble a dropped screen two missed field goals Drew missing on three straight passes with the glove etc and JG getting shut down and a lot of non calls by the refs playing at seattle again and the final score.
