In short, after reviewing this - Atlanta's D, O-Line and Special Teams is probably going to get ravaged once this new deal gets signed. If that's the case - sigh - this hurts to say, but Atlanta may finish 2nd or even 3rd in the division in 2011.
Ugh, I need a drink!

I like watching different ways teams manage and coach, as well as certain players, so I get what you're saying.
Back to FA, if the cap is around 120 million as some have speculated, then there may not be as much to worry about.

Falcons were retarded giving up what they did for Julio Jones. A guy who has proven to be a athlete and not a polished WR in college. You better hope he turns into a superstar. Only way giving up what they did in the draft is if he does turn into one...stupid. Good for the Saints though, we put the pressure on them and ATL felt they needed to win now before its too late. Big risk that probably won't pay off. Now they're going to lose players and have nobody to replace them. Thanks ATL, good FO decisions there for the Saints.

I hope that Sharper has somthing in the tank. He would stay for cheap and I just don't want him to go just yet.
The idea is good but minimum for a 10yr player last year was $855K- NOT cheap for a backup. Prolly over $900K with the new deal. So unless you really envision him being more than a backup that might be prohibitive. Much like a Brunnell type backup just becomes too spendy. Look up undrafted DeAndre McDaniel. Some had him as high as a 3rd or 4th Rd grade. For $600K less you get someone with upside potential at either safety spot.

rotoworld-
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution expects LG Justin Blalock to price himself out of the Falcons' range in free agency.
We guessed that Blalock would be the one free agent offensive lineman Atlanta would work hard to retain because he's younger than Harvey Dahl and Tyson Clabo. The AJC disagrees. A 27-year-old power blocker at 6-foot-4, 329, Blalock would be an excellent fit in Minnesota with old Falcons QBs coach Bill Musgrave. The Falcons are going to have a lot of turnover on the line.

Yea. Losing Blalock won't be too bad. Losing Blalock and Dahl is replaceable but sucks. Losing Blalock, Dahl, and Clabo means we have AT LEAST 1 weak spot on the O-Line, possibly 2.
HOWEVER, did anyone ever hear of/know of Dahl, Blalock or Clabo before 2007? Nope. They were all newbies and barely any playing time under their belt.
Unfortunately you gotta baptize new guys to the NFL sometime. I just don't like that the Falcons may be doing it with 3 OLinemen.
They will have to re-sign at LEAST 1.
