Dennis Allen is literally an empty suit with as much personality as a Dillard's mannequin. He might as well be Woopie Goldberg for Les Miles' football ghost for how terrible he is at managing a football game in real-time. He has repeatedly displayed a pattern that looks the same in preseason as it does in regular season. So no, people pointing this out during any part of the season are not "overreacting".
I see a coach that looks rusty, like instead of preparing to coach for his job the next season he took a nice long vacation and he's still catching up on emails.

Possibly wanted to see another kick off. Remember guys it's nice to win these games but the main objective is player performance/ scheme appraisal.
