He's been a starter for three years there isn't a 3 year starter in the league you can't find examples of bad play here and there because no one is perfect. That's why you don't base full player assessments on a few plays. Hell Brees isn't immune to this he threw up a toss up to a triple covered fullback in a game this year.

You'll never find a player that whiffs more on tackles than Marcus Williams.

The fricking Minnesota play would not have happened to another player. It's impossible to just miss someone completely if you actually use your arms. The fricker looks like he plays with his two arms tied behind his back on tackles.

I don't know how the Saints staff has decided that this is reasonable.

I hate him as a player...not as a person. Although anyone who isn't willing to change something so obviously wrong professionally isn't a good person either.

Marcus Williams is the new Roman Harper. Makes some great plays, and is a leader on defense, but will ultimately make boneheaded plays that cost you games. It's tough to say we'd be better off without him, but he is definitely a liability.

What I read here is this. Marcus Williams has incredible talent and is capable of greatness. BUT, he is making the choice to not work harder to be great. His inability to tackle is mind boggling. Because of this, you hate the person/player that he is choosing not to be.

Is this accurate?

I can't stand him as a player. Nobody with his talent should be unable to even attempt to tackle with decent enough form to not miss players completely.

His unwillingness to tackle cost us a Super Bowl. There is no negative play one could make that would be worse. His legacy will be that play.

And, in the almost 2 years since that play, he's done nothing to fix that problem. In fact, he still closes his eyes and dives at the feet of players often and has completely whiffed players multiple times.

I can't imagine the hubris it takes for a player to frick up as big as he did, and not even try to fix that problem.

That play was the result of him trying to avoid pass interference....

But you’ve got it all figured out. He’s had a GREAT season

This is an outright lie. He has done the same thing for three years since that play. Not one tackle in 3 years has changed. We get it! Some of you have such a Huge crush on Marcus Williams, that he is more important than the Saints best interest. Enjoy following his miserable career wherever he plays. You will always be please with a bush league player.

Plenty of material out there on this

It's easy to see what went wrong from Williams on the play. He went for the tackle while also trying to avoid hitting Diggs too early for a pass interference penalty. But, when he bent down to hit Diggs, Williams went right under Diggs' legs. "It was a timing decision, obviously, and he'd like to have that back," Saints coach Sean Payton said. "But, he's been a good player for us all year."

Guess not too obvious

#1) It's just as much of a debacle of a play if the result was a complete miss because he's trying to avoid pass interference (as if whiffing and pass interference are the only two possibilities on a last second prayer of a pass). That you think it's an excuse is funny.

#2) It's as if we haven't seen him do it multiple times since then. I posted examples above.

How many defensive players would have thrown themselves at the feet of a starting QB with a full head of steam and a QB sprinting for the pylon? These are WTF plays and there are many of them.

I understand the argument against cutting him today but whatever metric you are referring to is flawed and doesn’t take into consideration game changing horrible plays and mistakes. He is BAD. I can think of more blunders he has made this year than times he has properly played a ball in the air. That says a lot about a safety.

They use this excuse because he's had very few balls thrown his way. Like he is the greatest safety ever and 31 other NFL teams are scared to throw his way. They also totally ignore he refuses to make contact when tackling. The one time he did in the Titans game was to the tight end and of course it was high. The tight end busted Marcus Williams A$$. He did get up and make the tackle...... AMAZINGLY!

These guys are in so much denial. Marcus Williams has proven on the field he will always be a late game liability. Sadly, all the playoff coaches know this.
