Imagine this guy going to negotiate and his agent using that as a negotiation tactic. Because that’s exactly what happened smh Peat is terrible is is the worst G in the NFL.
Which is highly possible and I believe that because on another team he wouldn’t even have a job.
This is a move that cripples a franchise. Just imagine the good players we will lose after overpaying a terrible player.
I doubt he was offered half of that contract anywhere. This is one of the worst contracts in recent history.

Meh he’s not a superstar but to say he’s the worst Guard in the NFL is a bit asinine. Definitely should have given him a minimum deal though. He had a bad year.

I'm thinking when the numbers come out it will look a little better but peat is decent when healthy
Being able to slide out to tackle is huge

On another team he’d be replaced. He is fricking terrible and that goes past my opinion. It’s damn near a fact.
A “family friend” of Payton? Must be some type of gay sex acts they holding over his head ... I need to know.

Brandincookem as usual I think you nailed how it all went down.
Peats agent:
"Um nobody is offering us much Loomis so how about a minimum one year prove it deal?"
Loomis:
"No that doesn't really work for us...how about 11 million a year for five years?"
Peats agent: "Golly gee that would be swell."

Peat is one of the better run blockers in the NFL. His pass blocking is just awful.

I want to start off by saying I hate this move. However, this is a little extreme. He is an average nfl starting guard. He gets embarrassed in games against good defenders but looks all pro against average defenders. I think we overpaid and should have let him go. May have been a panic move since this draft is weak for interior lineman and we are trying to win a Super Bowl this year.

He is a mauler in the screen/run game. Can get to the second level and destroy defenders. He is versatile and can kick out to tackle which is cost money in the NFL. While his weakness is pass protection, he has had some injuries which magnified it in some of the worst situations. I feel that is what most seem to focus on. The dude gets zero credit when he is holding it down and making plays, but gets put on blast when he has a bad game. Nothing wrong with that as that is par for the course with most O linemen (average fans only see the mistakes on the line because it ends up in a negative play). Overall, his versatility and him being a current player within our system dictated this contract. I believe someone was sniffing him on the market as well. Could be smoke by his agent, but who knows.

Theoretically, I can kick out to tackle. Doesn’t mean I’m any good at it. We need to get a backup for Armstead. He can’t make it the whole season and Peat is terrible outside and is oft injured as well.

We pass like 90 percent of the time so not being able to pass protect is bad. Also he is pretty good in the run game but I have seen him kill drives bc he absolutely Wiffs on a run block and Kamara get killed before he even gets the ball. The unfortunate thing is that Peat’s bad is really really bad and it hurts the team. He plays well against average defenders but gets obliterated against good defenders. I would be ok if we paid him average starting guard money but we paid him top 6 pay and he can’t compete against good defensive lineman. Think of the defensive lines we will have to play in the nfc.

Wait, so what's the story of peat and Payton being family friends
There is no way around it, what the saints paid peat does not equal his production
