Why isn’t Diallo in the G League?

He should be there getting his feet wet, not sure what he gets out of riding the bench every night. Omer Asik is seeing playing time over him.

Ship him to the Gatorade league and bring him back if somebody gets hurt.

That’s all.

He was there last year and it helped him so much that he can't even play when we were shorthanded this year.

Team thinks he benefits more from practicing day in and day out with real professionals

There was no G League when Jermaine O'Neil was a young player. And he barely ever played. But he practiced every day against Rasheed and Brian Grant and other tough, vet bigs. And a few years later, he was a star because of it

That's the hope

Diallo needs to become more fundamentally sound, something he will probably get better coaching on with the Pels own coaches, and needs to become better versed in the Pels system knowing where he needs to be in a given situation. That's just not something he's going to pick up in the GLeague.

I think the GLeague is still a few years away from being ready for prime time. Constantly shuffling lineups of guys freelancing and trying to get noticed isn't a good simulation of the NBA. Fast forward a few years when every team has their own GLeague affiliate and 2 way players plus rookies, then the GLeague might become a viable development system. You might have 4-5 players connected to your roster on your GLeague team with your own coaches running your own system and the other teams will be doing the same thing as well. Then it's a reasonable proxy to the NBA and a place where your young players can learn to play in the League and your system.
