I would be shocked to see Gentry back next year. It will be hard for me to continue watching games if he is. I never wanted to fire Monty way back when and if we did I wanted a coach with a good track record. Now we might be looking at what? year 5, 6 whatever it is with a coach most of us never wanted in the first place

John Hollinger and Nate Duncan did a podcast ranking every coach in the league and Gentry basically came in the mid twenties as a vet guy that won’t actively sabotage your franchise but doesn’t really do anything of note, which seems about right.

He’s not Doug Collins or Bickerstaff bad, but he is definitely two to three tiers down from the Rick Carlisle, Nick Nurse, Pop level. And that really isn’t going to cut it except in the very rare situation like Lebron and Lue. Because in a 7 game series when we eventually have the talent to match anyone, that coaching is going to make the difference in a series.

I just don’t know who is out there to replace him.

Are you in town for more games? You went to Lakers game too right? Hopefully you get to see a win. 2 games back to back where it felt like we got our heart ripped out.

The pace isn't necessarily the issue. It's the trash defensive efficiency. Warriors played fast as hell but actually locked in on defense. We are an absolute embarrassment defensively

Gentry asks about as much as any coach in the league of his players:

Play faster than everyone, have as clean decision making and passing as the 2014 Spurs, execute this more complex defense, board aggressively well even though we go smaller than our opponents most nights, shoot a ton of threes even though we only really have a few reliable shooters.

Problem is, as promising as we are, we aren’t the prime Durant Warriors. And even that team had problems with live ball turnovers at a near league high rate.

I get the free flow he wants to play with but you have to play situational basketball at this level. You are going against an undermanned team that you have more talent than and you put out a lineup of 4 guards and Zion ?!? .... boom lead shrinks from +8 to -2. That is where the game was lost.
