He's really improved as a shooter
I have zero issue bringing him back on a reasonable deal for a couple years

For me, it depends on what you get back in the trade and who you take in the draft. I am assuming we get Marcus Smart. So, that would mean Smart, Jrue, and Frank Jackson in the back court. I won't even count Moore. Plus, we likely get at least 1-2 picks from Boston, plus our own first and second. 3 or 4 picks, I am sure one of them will be a guard. I don't really see where Payton fits unless he is cool being a 4th guard, just holding that spot until we find something better.

That logic is very logical. But what sort of market will be out there for Elfrid? Can't see many rotations with Payton and Smart. Not a lot of spacing there. Payton may find the Pels a hometown cheap signing.
Would Moore even be a better option? I really am agreeing, just would like a spot for Elfrid.

It's hard to let go of guys who are possibly undervalued. Heck, it's why people hoard in general. Nobody wants to throw something away that might have some value down the line.
But for me, I see the ceiling with Payton and he isn't a top 8 guy on a great team. I would rather give Jackson and a rookie all those minutes and see what they can be, as opposed to just holding on to a guy because we might get a bargain

He may not be top 7-8 but I could see him being in that 9-10 tier pretty easily. Definitely worth keeping around if the price is right and also gives you legitimate ball handler insurance if someone were to miss time.
