Beilein ran an offense suited strictly for college where many NBA people agree that Hurley’s offense is well suited for the NBA- its why you’re seeing young players become 1st round prospects from UConn (see Hawkins, Castle and Clingan). Hurley also has won two titles.
Beilein also technically called his team “thugs” and then said he really wanted to say “slugs”- honestly that probably led to his departure more than anything. He resigned not long after that.

Hurley would be an idiot to walk into that shitshow.
I don’t get it either, unless he’s always wanted to be in the NBA.
One year with Lebron and then a whole new cast of characters likely. Not a lot of upsides with coaching there for one year. Ceiling is the 2nd round, maybe conf finals, floor is top pick the the draft next year. Most likely they are about the same as last year. Then the rebuild/reload begins with Tony as the beta leading the team?

Hes getting a long term deal with a hefty financial commitment. After Bron is gone, he’ll get a chance to retool that whole roster. I think you guys are assuming this is a Ham or Vogel type of deal. I think Lakers are thinking beyond Bron with this hire. Hes stated hes wanted to be in the NBA and when Bron is gone he can restart the team how he wants it. Still a lot of pressure and not the best situation but college basketball with NIL is a complete mess as well.
