Honest question. If EJ is severely injured, can we still sign him? And then effectively IR him and open back up a roster spot? The saints used to do this a lot with guys they liked on the fringe of their 53.

Nba doesn’t have IR pretty sure

Correct, there is no IR. There is a Disabled Player Exception but that doesn't fit here for a variety of reasons like he had to be under contract at the time of the injury, and it just gives you cap space, not a roster spot.
To me the most likely move is giving EJ a 2 way contract so he can get paid something and rehab with the team, and if his rehab progresses well you can clear a roster spot and give him a regular contract towards the end of the season. That's assuming they hadn't already promised him a full contract, which they could have done and are just waiting for the trade market to unfreeze to free up a roster spot.

Well the weird thing is we technically dont even have to clear the roster spot until the start of the season. Idk

Griffs made mistakes but he also given us the most promising and exciting figure we’ve ever had. So, yea f he wants to sit him 60 games I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now
