Could the Chris Paul trade have worked out any worse for New Orleans?

We could've gotten Houston and LA's deal.

a year and a half of Al-Farouq Aminu (leaving after this season)

I'd like to hear his source that says Aminu is definitely gone. I don't see how we let him go when his contract will be cheap and he is producing well.

a lottery pick they turned into Austin Rivers (who generated some "historically bad" buzz over the holidays before breaking his hand last week)

Well, clearly he hasn't watched Austin Rivers play at all recently.

Of course he hasn't. No time for that when all anyone at ESPN talks about is Boston/Miami/LA.

Well we did decline his option, usually when that happens on rookie deals the player isn't brought back to his current team.

So a year later and we have

1. Kaman gone, didn't do much when he was here

2. A below average Aminu who is maybe gone after this year

3. A constantly hurt, average, way overpaid Gordon

And a pick that netted us a pretty bad Austin Rivers

And that's better than Scola (a solid starting PF), Martin (a high-quality starting SG, currently better than Gordon), Odom (who would have been gone by now), Dragic (who is borderline top 10-15 PG in the league, better than Vasquez) and a 1st round pick?

Yea, not really.

Gives us less flexibility in the future admittedly, but it is really yet to be seen that we can really attract any really quality players to play for this team anyway.

Scola has been really shitty these past 2 years. He had a career year right before the CP3 ordeal so it didn't look so bad at the time. Martin is a good player but he really doesn't fit in with a rebuilding team. He would've helped make us a little better than what we were last year, but we wouldn't have AD as a result. Dragic was not included in the final deal, he was just a rumored piece early on in the negotiations. I don't remember the 1st round pick but it would've been worse than 10 regardless and all of the rookies in that range have been just as bad as Rivers.

Good point

I forgot about that

I honestly wouldn't have been surprised if Rivers was still there at that pick and we still took him

Monty and Demps loved Rivers during the weeks before the draft

Could be possible as well. I can say for sure right now that I'm glad we have Rivers instead of a guy like Meyers Leonard or Tyler Zeller. Rivers has shown flashes recently of the player he could be if he reaches his potential. He's got crazy quickness that you can't teach no matter how hard you try and is shockingly good on defense already. I'm excited to watch him grow here.

He's at like 13/6/2 at 25 mins a game this year

Not great, but not terrible

He would've gotten way more minutes and looks on offense on the Hornets

I mean I was pretty pumped we got the trade we did at the time, but now almost two years later I'm really not sure it was the better of the two trades

Especially if Dragic was involved

to be fair... Simmons is an admitted Boston homer who lives in L.A. now and has Clippers season tix

all he's seen was the early questions that were talked about regarding Rivers... he hasn't seen the development like us who have watched the Hornets all season

I think Rivers will be real fun to watch next season
