He's pretty much calling the shots now from what I can tell. A "rebranding" would require league approval. I have no love for Shinn, but I do think the Hornets, including the name, are finally being embraced by the city. A name change may not make sense now. I don't have strong feelings one way or the other I suppose.

I had to listen to the 1st half of the game on the radio, and i'm pretty sure Gerry V was saying "Belly Nelly" as well.

which made me think that we were all mispronouncing it.

but my two years of Italian in school tell me its pronounced BellaNelly.

I really can't see a rebranding with how "new" everything is. The court, the jerseys, the colors, the FDB...

I'm about to call into 690 to ask.

I googled it and found this from a 2007 draft preview that might indicate Licht is correct.

I just called and asked them about it and they said that the Hornets have said it's "Belly Nelly" on media day so that's why Litch and others are running with it.

One of them (I can never keep them straight) said it's definitely wrong and that it's Bell-uh-nelli but whatevs.

my friend works at 690.

i think they get reprimanded for doing research on topics.
i take whatever they say with a grain of salt.

P.S. I hate that cliche.

i agree with you in that Chouest has been calling the shots. It certainly does appear that the off season changes were his decisions. now of course im not talking about rebranding in the middle of the season but after this season, hoping that Chouest takes over by then. League approval shouldnt be a big deal considering the sonics changed to the thunder practically overnight. I am going to have to disagree with you that the city has embraced the name Hornets. Knowing New Orleanians, I believe that people would love to be able to name a team who's name is true to the city.

Also, from what I have heard. Chouest is all for a rebranding.

By this point I don't think a new nickname/logo/color scheme would be possible until the season AFTER next.

I guess the saving grace would be the lockout.

The new owner of the Wizards looked at a name change and decided it wasn't worth the time/cost. Rebranding isn't an easy task even when it may seem like a good idea.

Haha yeah I heard you on there. At frist when you asked, "What is the name of the European 2 guard", I was like what a noob, way to jump on the bandwagon now, but I see where you went with it after that.

I would've hoped so, that is their job. It looks like Hornets Talk was wrong.

Thing is, though, after they shock the world and take the title this year, it's going to be tough to then change name and colors.

Sorry it bothers you, but just FYI... it is correct.

The Hornets will tell you it's pronounced like Belly-nelly... b/c that's how Marco himself said it's pronounced. Maybe he doesn't have to overemphasize it if that's what he's doing... but the way he's saying it is correct.

I believe you are correct, sir.

More importantly, I forgot to listen at the last game . . . are they still playing that Italian dance theme everytime Marco does something? That was sort of offensive.

Don't remember hearing that, but then again the team hasn't been home in a week... and lately, the only noise coming after a Marco 3-pt hoop is the silence of the other team's crowd! :) HA!

Yeah, they are playing the Italian dance thing when Marco scores.

I'd prefer either the announcer or a recording say, "MARCO" and the crowd would respond by saying, "POLO"

Crowd participation... its a beautiful thing.
