Teams like OKC, which are run perfectly

Not sure I'd say that, they are where they are entirely because their owner(and to a lesser extent Presti) chose cheapness and hubris over maintaining a budding dynasty.

Pay Harden the extra few million that negotiations broke down over, upgrade the coaching staff, and OKC is likely still dominating the league.

The Saints were in the same scenario before winning a title (and sustaining success for 15 years after).

Also, destination really doesn’t mean much of anything in the NFL. It’s the opposite case in the NBA.

It’s really as simple as just start winning. I think they see the talent here, but they don’t trust it yet. Start becoming a playoff staple and that changes.

It comes down to invested ownership, competent management, and consistently intelligent coaching. The Pelicans have none of those three.

You can say a lot of things, but Benson is absolutely invested in the Pels. She’s basically opened the checkbook for whatever the team has wanted.

Sean Payton! Overall he is a great coach, innovator and respected by players aound the NFL. Players are willing to sacrifice to be part of the Saints brand. The Saints also have a loyal fan base which really helps.
The Pels meantime dwell in mediocrity. The Pels head is rotten yet he maintains his job.

Basketball culture and the fact basketball uses less players. This gives basketball stars more influence and ultimately many NBA stars don’t view basketball as much like a team sport as football. The NBA is more of a “me” sport.
