We're not against rap. We're not against rappers. But we are against those thugs.

How old is old?
I like rap music that tells a story worth listening to, and isn't all bass gone wild!
I can't relate to the profanity and violence in most rap..
Hearing a pure clean note played on a guitar or any other instrument, makes me smile, feel warm all over, and appreciative of life, and the talent and hard practice it took to get there..
Rap... Not so much.

No body can call themselves a real fan of music and then totally dis one genre. There's lot's off shitty rap, just like there's lots of shitty country and rock. But there's also some very cool and interesting rap. I still listen to some old school rap from back in the day like Too $hort, NWA, Sir Mix-A-Lot, maybe some De La Soul. Throw in some Outkast and Del The Funky Homosapian, and then some of the stuff they play on KLSU like Lupe Fiasco. They play other rap songs that I'm not always able to catch the name of but it's not the crap they play on the mainstream stations and much of it is damn good.

for me personally as I got older (31 now)my values changed and I realized that my past values were frivolous and immature. values when I was 15-25:
Get money, be self absorbed, objectify women, be hard, blindly favoring intoxication to progression.
values now: don't be like previous.
I listened to 75% rap 20% electronic 5% older rock growing up and loved rap. I always compare it to movies just cause you watch a movie about a killer or western doesn't mean you want to be one, and can enjoy it from a different perspective. unfortunately most take it as law, and I feel that it supports a viscous cycle of poverty crime and violence. one of the biggest problems as Sayre mentioned is exposure. The rap on the radio is bad
KLSU is good. I have found some "new york style" rappers with endless intellectually driven lyrics. but the beat is lacking and gets boring. Right now I listen to electronic trap instead. The feeling is the same uplifting, aggressive, self empowering but not at the cost of happiness of others, and the lyrics or lack of lyrics aren't off putting. Now I listen to 50% electronic 40% indie rock, 10% country
I will be seeing Bone tonight at BUKU!!

Late to the thread but old people don't like rap because they killed their ear drums with Deathrow, No Limit & Bad Boy throughout the 90's. Just can't handle anymore bass.

If you say "rap is not music", you probably don't really like music.
