I think she always had an eating disorder. And it's been 15-20 years since she first arrived on the scene.
Anyone remember that Sundance show Iconoclasts? It aired about 10 years ago and they had celebrities who were friends hanging out with each other -- Paul Newman and Robert Redford, Eddie Vedder and Laird Hamilton, Michael Stipe and Mario Batali. Anyhow, there was an episode with Fiona Apple and Quentin Tarantino were hanging out in Austin - and Tarantino was high high on coke -- just talking fast and sweating like he was digging a ditch -- while trying to get into Fiona Apple's panties.

She just played here with Watkins Family social hour. She looked a little whacked out but much better than in that picture. She acted weird as hell and beat on the stage with sticks and other theatrical crap. Best thing she did was cover Jolene.

The last time I saw her was live in Atlanta at The Tabernacle in 2012, shortly after she got busted in Texas for hash. Her performance was mediocre at best, and she fell down on stage multiple times. She also spent a lot of time rolling around on a rug while singing...

I saw her open for Coldplay about 10 years ago and she has a very awkward stage presence. It doesn't seem like that's changed much since then.
