What are y’all’s feelings about Motown?

I went to see the Four Tops and The Temptations last week in Huntsville. The Temptations are still touring with one of the original members (84 years old!)
Current favorite Four Tops song is Bernadette
The Temptations are just a national treasure. They are really cool and have such a fantastic history of progression without giving up what made them great. It reminds me of the Beatles, both of their beginnings were the campier, cute songs but then they morphed into having songs with a lot of heart and meaning. The Temptations went from My Girl to Ball of Confusion without feeling gimmicky.
Ken Burns has done docs on Jazz and Country. I can’t think of a more quintessentially American genre to add to that list than Motown music. And yes, I realize it’s a record label, but I feel like it’s also a genre. Something was just happening in Detroit just like in New Orleans and Bristol.
