This is tough...so many
1): Grateful Dead - October 8th and 9th Hampton Coliseum 1989 - these were guerilla Warlock shows and the return of Dark Star. Without a doubt the greatest live show I ever attended in person. Too many Dead shows to reference....
2): Rolling Stones - Steel Wheels Legion Field. My cousin somehow scored 5th row.
3): Nirvana - Boutwell Auditorium December 1993. At the end of the show Kurt Cobain came back out on stage and said this was one of the best shows he ever played.
4): Lollapalooza - 1992 Washington DC - Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine. Saw the first one as well which was amazing
5): Pink Floyd- Legion Field - Division Bell Tour
I could go on but these are 5 standouts

Was reaaaalllll lucky on that one. I was living in Washington D.C. at the time and had a very good friend from school who lived in the Tidewater area. They locally announced two shows by a band called "The Warlocks"....we were like could it be? is it? really? Is this happening? Wasn't really sure if this was a joke or not but word was beginning to catch on like wildfire. They put tickets on sale locally only...He was able to score tickets for both nights.

I was at that concert and it could have easily made my top five. A friend who thought life began and ended with "Graceland" talked a bunch of us into going. I was always a casual fan of Simon until this night. I was so blown away I've bought everything he's put out since. Two years ago I brought my wife to her FIRST Paul Simon show at the UNO Arena--she was blown away too and her first reaction was..."this man is SEVENTY?"

1. Alice Cooper, The Pageant, St. Louis 2012.
The best combination of musician and showman I've ever seen. He had the girl guitarist Oranthi with him and they were outstanding. Alice dressing up like Uncle Sam for "elected" was a real lol highlight. I got down in the mosh pit and stood 25 away. Gold!
2. Back Door Slam, Beale Street Music Festival, Memphis 2008.
I had no clue what I was about to witness when I entered the Blues Tent early on Saturday afternoon. Old bluesman, Pinetop Perkins, had finished a set when three 20 year old kids strode the stage and Davy Knowles proceeds to run half the crowd (the geezers) out with his incendiary solos. He received two standing Os per song - one after the guitar solo and one at the conclusion of each song. I imagine it like seeing Hendrix or Clapton at incubation. Amazing.
3. Chuck Berry, Blueberry Hill, St. Louis 2006.
At age 79 Berry was well past his prime, but I include this because 1) how often do you get to see a living legend sing? and 2) how often do you get to see a living legend sing in a room the size of a big basement and then shake his hand and have him autograph a CD for you? And Chuck had a good night too. Played the hits, invited the women to go up on stage and dance for the finale while he duckwalked through them, and I got to take my daughter so she could see an Architect of Rock play.
4. Three Dog Night, Westport Playhouse, St. Louis 1983.
They had already split from Chuck Negron, so it was only Danny Hutton and Cory Wells, but OMG could Cory Wells sing!! I've read Janis slapped him in the face for having the gall to sing Otis Redding, but he was born to sing "Try A Little Tenderness" and "Change Gonna Come". (I think it's better than Sam Cooke) The Westport was about 1000 seats in the round, so they were performing on a revolving stage and they were great! Kicked arse.
5. Peter Frampton, St. Paul Civic Center, St. Paul 1977.
My first concert ever where PF was touring in promotion of the follow-up to Frampton Comes Alive, "I'm In You". Great show. The smell of Mary Jane was strong. Rick Derringer opened and masturbated his guitar

Crazy , Frampton 77 "I'm in You" tour here in B.R. was my first concert as well. But, i don't even remember who opened. Of course i was 14 so, i probably didn't pay attention to the opening band.
ETA: Google is a wonderful thing. I found this but, it doesn't list an opening act. maybe there wasn't one?
