The Tremeloes - Was this 60's band ever "big"?

The song Do I Love You came on a random spotify station and I loved it. It sounds like a mix of Beatles, ELO, and the Bee Gees (pre-disco). I tried listening to some of their other "hits" but none of them have the punch of this song.

Is anyone familiar with this band? Were they very popular in the 60's or later?

You piqued my interest and my question is how did you discover this bunch.

I had not heard of them so I searched and it appears most of their songs were records of songs made popular by the likes of Roy Orbison, Candy man and the Isley brothers, twist and shout.

Also, the contours, do you love me
Cat Stevens, here comes my baby
Four season, silence is golden.

Seems they were popular in england.

I have Spotify autoplay on, based on a song or album that I’ve played. I was listening to Pilot’s “Magic” and Spotify created an excellent autoplay playlist / station based on that. This band / song was among the many that were played.

I don't really know that much about them (I'd never heard "Do I Love You" before), and aside from their frat party classic "Here Comes My Baby", never found them terribly notable.

Curiously no one has mentioned their greatest claim to fame. The Tremeloes were signed by Decca Records in early 1962, over another band that had auditioned on New Year's Day but been rejected because "guitar groups are on the way out".

That was a little Liverpool outfit called The Beatles...

I get the impression they had a few hits but never had a "personality", like say The Kinks or The Who.

I don't think they were like The Hollies, who were fairly popular in the US but HUGE in the UK.

What's crazy is that "Do I Love You" isn't even one of the top songs listed in Spotify. I think the song is awesome.
