Well said, and I feel the same way. I love most metal, but at the end of the day, prog is where it's at. Check out Gordian Knot and Planet X (the "Quantum" album). If you haven't heard them before, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah Testament kicks arse.

Unlike the other thrash bands, IMO, Testament has gotten better as they've gotten older.

Oh, absolutely. This may be blasphemy to some....but I never understood how Anthrax was considered to be up there with Metallica, Megadeth etc and Testament was relatively underground. Don't get me wrong, Anthrax has some good music, when they aren't making shitty music...at certain points in their career, and always without Joey Belladonna.

I'm a thrash metal fanatic but John Bush Anthrax is much better than Joey Belladonna Anthrax. His voice just fits them better. I've seen them live with both singers & Bush era Anthrax just kills it more.

Yeah that's what I was alluding to. I saw them live in 19' (I think?) at Iron City in Birmingham, reunited with Belladonna. Dude was awful. My opinion of course...the concert sucked balls for me, because all they played was their early work with Belladonna. No newer music. Just a terrible show. Their reasoning was because they hadn't played in Alabama in some 20+ years or some bs.

And I don't mean to disrespect Anthrax as a whole, they really do have some good music, esp with John Bush on lead vocals.

What Doesn't Die

I will say though ..despite Belladonna returning, Worship Music is a damn fine album from the perspective of the instrumentation. And his vocals are tolerable on that album. I have always liked Scott Ian's guitar work, just wish he had a different supporting cast.

Revocation:
The Gift You Gave
The Hive

Underrated metal band, but may be a little too much for some people. Not the songs I linked, those are a bit more tame. Worth a listen.

Agreed. I like Anthrax, but they always sounded more punk than thrash.

I just felt like they were sub par compared to so many other bands at that time. I will say that I have gone back and listened to a good bit of their discography just out of curiosity and to educate myself, and I can certainly hear how much influence they have had on modern music. It just never resonated with me for whatever reason.

Racer X:
The Siren's Eye
Viking Kong

Racer X is such a good band. Their guitarist, Paul Gilbert, is on a different level.
