New Christmas Boxset to be released and a Christmas tour!

quote:

Happy Holidays! On November 13, 2012, Asthmatic Kitty will release (another!) Christmas box-set extravaganza by Sufjan Stevens—Silver & Gold: Songs for Christmas, Vols. 6-10, a compilation of 5 EPs recorded between 2006 and 2010.
Expanding on the tradition of the first box-set (Songs for Christmas, Vols. 1-5 from 2006), Silver & Gold is a generous document of five more years of holly-jolly jubilee undertaken by Sufjan and his various musical cohorts.
There's a veritable feast for the eyes of content in the CD and vinyl boxsets. Click here to see all the contents.
Your local record store will be carrying both the CD and Vinyl boxsets.
We are offering a special Mail Order edition of the vinyl boxset, which will come with extra goodies shipped especially for you.

The single can be found here: LINK
I think the single is very good...probably better than any of his other original X-mas songs from the first box set.

PLEASE NOTE: Vinyl Box Set may not arrive in time for Christmas. Manufacturing for this product is quite elaborate, to say the least; everyone's doing his/her best to facilitate a timely arrival.

I just can't seem to get into Sufjan. His guitar work is beautiful, but his vocals just do nothing for me. He has a good voice, but in my opinion he is quite unambitious in how he uses it. What's that? You're whispering again, Sufjan.

Interesting. I saw them in 2006 or 07 in New Orleans, and they're show was great. I bet they would put on one hell of a Christmas show!

The only Christmas music I can stomach too.

Love Sufjan, the man moves mountains for me musically. Greetings from Michigan and Illinois are amazing works.

I know I read somewhere he would not play Texas because of what they believe in? or maybe not make a "Texas" album like the other states. I like about 5 of his songs.... way to many jam sessions for me.

You're the grinch.

But I can't wait for this! Definitely want to go see one of his shows. Anyone seen him live?

eta: Just preordered!

I saw him live in 2010. One of the best live shows I have been to, sans Sufjan's super awkward stage banter. The visuals were so well done.

I am not sure what to expect for this tour because it seems to be mostly in smaller clubs.

I'm kinda the same. I've always just listened to Sufjan's first Christmas collection, Starflyer 59's christmas tunes, and Vince Guaraldi Trio exclusively.

Of course I dig some of the classics, but they get so overplayed. If I hear Manheim Steamroller one more time I will break something.

How did y'all feel about Age of Adz?

Never got into it as much, but honestly didn't give it much of a chance

After not really liking it at first, I now consider it a triumph. It's obvious he wants to move away from the Michigan/Illinois-type stuff, or do another folk album like Seven Swans. Sufjan will be Sufjan and explore new territory. If you judge Age of Adz by itself, independently from his other releases, I think you'll find that it's actually really good. It grew on me.

But it's possible I'm a Sufjan fanboy who wants to like everything he does.

The Age of Adz was a great addition to his catalog. It really is a musical journey. My only complaint is that I didn't get to see much of his old material on the last tour because Age of Adz is mostly electronic, and he didn't bring the full band.

Quite possibly the best Christmas album ever. It gets several plays every year on my record player.

Anyone listen to Silver and Gold yet? I think it's better than the first X-mas album he put out. The original songs are really good.

It's on spotify now in case you are interested.
