Soundgarden is one of my favorite bands, and I LOVE Black Hole Sun. I don't listen to the radio though so I guess it's not played out for me. I like Spoonman alright. Badmotorfinger is my favorite album though.

Big Soundgarden fan back in the day.
I liked Spoonman well enough. Black Hole Sun got a little overplayed for my taste. Whoever mentioned 4th of July, big ups to you. That song is incredible. Chris Cornell's vocals are unreal.
But yeah, Badmotorfinger is their best record. It's heavy and it has all these weird things in it -- like the sax on Room a Thousand Years Wide, the speak and spell thing at the start of Searching With My Good Eye Closed.

What's the story with Matt Mascona using this song as his intro?

Spoonman

Sconman

The way they say spoon sounds like the way he says part of his name.

Saw Soundgarden at Voodoo a few years ago and loved them. No special light show or gimmicky shite. Just the band rocking out.

I don't know how it can be "pretentious" to simply like or dislike a certain song. That word always seems to be the trump card of people who are nothing more than confounded by someone having different taste in music from them. It comes off like some kind of passive-aggressive demand for everybody to come in line with their particular preferences. It's best to just state your case and move on without attaching some kind of weird ulterior-motive conspiracy to it.

If they like it, they like it. If they don't, they don't. Not a big deal.

The other thing is, pretentiousness, to some varying degree, plays a part in almost any worthy artistic work. There may be a lot or there may be just a little. But it's there. How did it get to be such a dreaded insult? You can really accuse almost anything of pretentiousness.

"Look at that guy with his tennis shoes... so pretentious!"

It can get a little stupid sometimes.

If I were trying to be trendy, I wouldn't be posting in a frickin Soundgarden thread.

I've found Spoonman unlistenable since it's initial release and still find it so. You'd have to love absolutely nothing about music to like that song.

Black Hole Sun is an awesome song. Such a great vocal performance, great lyrics, and such a cool, eerie sound.
