So, I'm sitting at a traffic light and Aretha Franklin's "Chain Of Fools"

Comes on the radio.
Bad arse from start to finish.
But the guitar in this song is just simple and incredible.
I was thinking "this really sounds like John Fogerty", but it can't be him, it's too early.
So I get home and immediately look up the credits for this song,
It's Roger Hawkins on drums
Spooner Oldham on keys
Jimmy Johnson and Joe South on the guitars
cotton field white guys.
David Hood wasn't the bass player... How did he get left out?

When they arrived at the studio, her husband/manager was none too pleased to see the room full of white boys.

It’s one of the best, yeah Rick Hall should not have gone over to the hotel that night after drinking to try and “smooth” things over with her husband. It didn’t turn out so well.

Yeah I think Jerry Wexler had taken them back to New York to finish cause her husband got pissed cause one of the horn session players kept flirting with Aretha if I recall correctly, Rick Hall did fire the guy but it was too late, damage done.
