So I'm going to my first Tool show in Nola next month. What to expect?

I've watched some youtube videos, and looks like it will be pretty wild. Does Maynard always stand at the back of the stage though?

also are there seats at the venue, or is it general admission and everybody is standing up the whole time?

TIA

One I saw in Fairfax, VA was boring AF. Yes, he stands in the back. Doesn't move. Still love the band.

Maynard will stay in the back of the stage the whole time. He will probably make a few comical quips but beyond that, don't expect him to be working the crowd. It is a big picture type of concert. The focus is not necessarily the individual guys but a larger atmosphere and all encompassing experience.

There are seats, most will be standing at their seats for the show. Floor tickets tend to be seated as well.

Any attempts to film will be met with heavy security resistance. Don't be an a-hole and just enjoy the experience.

There will be no encore. There will likely be an intermission towards the rear of the set, band members leave the stage likely with Danny Carey setting up some crazy synth loops and possibly picking yup with a drum solo. Few more songs. House lights. Get up and go.

You should be able to get a good nap in.

I'll add this, there is a reason every venue sells out in a matter of minutes.

yeah, can't wait. thanks for the responses

None of my friends like Tool so my brother is going with me. The only Tool song he has ever heard is The Pot, so I'm sure he's in for a treat

Like any band, the more you are into the songs the better the concert experience. I saw them during the Lateralus tour and was bored. At that point, I had not gotten into that album, so the set was largely foreign to me. I had only heard Schism and thought it was a bad direction for the band. I wish I could relive that concert now. It wasn't until 10k Days that I went back and realized how amazing Lateralus is.

I dig all of their albums. if I had to pick my least favorite though that would probably be Opiate.

One song I hope they play is Wings for Marie. That song is epic

I wouldn't hold out hope for it. I'm pretty sure Maynard has retired that one. He gave an interview discussing the unforeseen emotional toll singing that song live would give him. The personal drag coupled with assholes deciding to mosh pit to it kind of sullied it. They did a very cool fog + laser effect during it live that created the look of clouds floating above the floor crowd...really neat effect
