The story goes that the 43-year-old Mississippi-born artist made a left turn in the middle of his 2016 tour, deciding to strip his big, jazzy production down to a lean lineup, then spent a while searching for songwriting inspiration and a more vital, visceral sound in the East Nashville home studio of his writer-producer buddy Keith Gattis. Houser has a record label, but he footed the bill for the recording of Magnolia — all dozen songs of which he co-wrote and co-produced — in anticipation of being told that he'd crossed the line into territory that was too uncommercial. Mercifully, that didn't happen.
Ive never been a huge fan of Houser. All of his previous music was just too "Nashville" overproduced, so it took me a while to actually listen to his new album. I wish I would have listened to it earlier. This is an album from a man that doesnt care about Music Row anymore. He is playing his music, and he doesnt care if he has country hits anymore.
The first song on the album is No Stone Unturned. The first lyrics from the song. "I made it up to Nashville, played the part. I took a broken guitar through the heart." It might be my favorite on the album.

The editor of Saving Country Music talks highly of this album; gonna have to give it a listen. Glad Houser stepped away from the terrible mainstream sound.

If you like Saving Country Music, then check out Grady Smith on youtube. He reviews country music and likes more traditional country music, but he's not an a-hole like Trigger on Saving Country Music.

Evangeline is my favorite song on this album along with No Good Place To Cry.
Feels like this album crossed more into the Stapleton style of music which includes alot of the blues influences as well as other genres. Hope he stays on this current path.
