Fenwyck - "Mindrocker" (1967)

A masterpiece of sunshine-sike:
quote:

“Mindrocker” is an airy Summer of Love piece of sunshine pop, sounding like the Association with a fuzz guitar. That might not sound like everyone’s cup of tea, but the song is winning in its studiocraft and naive optimism; its breezy melody and overall good vibe recalls the Mamas and Papas and Scott McKenzie as well. “Mindrocker” isn’t exactly “garage rock”, since the studio played a large part in its sound. But it is usually included on garage rock anthologies, sharing with garage rock obscurity and as sense of time and place. It never charted. - psychedelicized.com

A newer band out of L.A.—The Regrettes. Has a real Sunset Strip punk feel to them.

One of their covers... Teenager in Love

I’m a David Lindsey fan, but I’m not that familiar with the band. That was probably during my heavy blues rock period.

Gals with Guitars:

Colette & The Bandits - "A Ladies' Man" (1965)

Some not bad guitar, though whether it's actually one of these chicks playing is anybody's guess. From the power chording it's no surprise to learn this was produced by the legendary Shel Talmy, who handled the early Kinks and Who.

Gals with Guitars:

Daughters Of Eve - "Don't Waste My Time" (1967)

Unusual but catchy mixture of garage, folk-rock, and girl groups. Nice ringing guitar.

Tom Northcott - "1941"

Cover of Harry Nilsson by a Canadian singer. This was Tom Northcott's only US "hit", getting to #88 on the Billboard chart.

Northcott left the music business to become a commercial fisherman. He later became a maritime lawyer

Eire Apparent - "The Clown"

Only album released by this Irish band, who happened to share management with a young fellow named Jimi Hendrix. Jimi produced as well as played on this track (can you tell it's him?)

The Dukes, high school boys from New Albany Mississippi, on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour. They're pretty good!

Whitewood - "Whitewood" (1970)

Only two acetates of this album are known to exist. The band members' identities are unknown.
quote:

During the 60's and 70's, many music publications ran ads in their classified section that would invite would-be song writers to 'Put your lyrics to music'. For a price, these companies would hire musicians to record your songs and press up a limited number (50?) of vinyl copies to send to the song writer to be used for promotional purposes. The music found on this album was recorded in this manner.

The Collectors - "Lydia Purple" (1968)

Canadian band (Vancouver) cut this classic bit of sunshine-psych for producer Dave Hassinger (Electric Prunes, Grateful Dead; also engineer on "Satisfaction"). The Collectors would later be known as Chilliwack.
