The “English Electric Part 1 & 2” albums are probably my favorites. “The First Rebreather,” “A Boy In Darkness”, and “East Coast Racer” are epic tracks from those albums. “Leopards” from Part 2 is my favorite of the ballads. At the moment, I’m listening to the “Far Skies Deep Time” album for my first time enjoying the hell out of it so far. Your thoughts?

FAR SKIES DEEP TIME

Edit: For those not familiar with this band, if you’re a Genesis, Yes, Peter Gabriel, Jethro Tull, ELP, etc.. fan you’ll probably enjoy Big Big Train.

In my opinion just ok. Too folk-ey for my taste and the lead singer is over the top cheesy and takes himself WAY too seriously.

But have a pocket of good songs. Love Nick D’Virgilio on drums, crazy underrated drummer with a pitch perfect voice.

Judas Unrepentant is a great song.

I would have to listen to a lot more to give a proper opinion, but the few songs I listened to did not grab me. Sounded a bit too much like early Genesis. At that point, I'd rather just listen to early Genesis. I've definitely heard the name for years, but they just never found their way into my playlists.

Bumping this tread to heap praise on BBT's new album, "Common Ground."

The overall sound is a big less folky and pastoral than previous releases - more modern, while maintaining their signature sound and elements. Longdon's unique voice remains the cohesive string through the complex aspects of the music.

The instrumental, "Apollo," is spectacular, as is the title track (be sure to watch the video) and the epic "Atlantic Cable." For a more straightforward rocker with infectious keys, check out the opener, "Strangest Times."

The album also more heavily features drummer Nick D'Virgilio (previously of Spock's Beard fame). NDV is a permanent member of the band now, but his writing and playing really shine on this album.

I am happy to recommend other BBT releases, but for the uninitiated, this is actually a very nice place to start. A wonderful slice of prog heaven!
