15 July 1972: The Stooges play a short set at King’s Cross Cinema in London
"A concert now shrouded in mythology, though in fact it was only about 40 minutes long, but it was a revolution for all who were in attendance. Punk rock was never so raw and brutal.”
“At some point, there was a problem with the sound. Pop stood still for a moment, stock-still and scowling, then howled with rage and hurled his mike to the ground. It shattered on impact., so he walked to another one, and treated the silent crowd to ‘The Shadow of Your Smile’ a suave accapella that kept everyone entranced while the problems were solved. Then it was back to the programmed set, loud, lewd and brutal.” – Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell by Dave Thompson
The show has been called “the birth of British punk” due to Joe Strummer (the Clash), Johnny Rotten (the Sex Pistols), Brian James (the Damned), and Siouxsie Sioux (Siouxsie and the Banshees) reportedly being in attendance.

I know a couple of the guys in this band. They landed a record deal with A&M and opened for Peter Frampton for a bunch of shows during the “Comes Alive” tour.
The singer, Jimi Jamison(far right) went on to be the lead singer of Survivor in the ‘80s.
The High Cotton was the rock club in Memphis for a time. The place burned down during a firefighter strike in 1978 or so. Just an empty lot there to this day.
Target was a great band.
