Neil Young has always been a proponent for studio-quality sound, and has never held back criticism for mp3 and other media variants.

He has invented PONO, a new media type/media player that is supposed to reproduce music as it is heard in the studio.

For at least two years, Neil Young has been at work developing his own digital music service, PONO, improving mp3s to studio quality sound. Now, Young has announced on PONO's Facebook page that the service is set to launch in early 2014, as Consequence of Sound reports. "We've liberated the music of the artist from the digital file and restored it to its original artistic quality," Young wrote on Facebook. "It has primal power."
