Well not technically, I once found an Acoustic that I may be getting back from a friend who was supposed to put me new strings like IDK 8 years ago
anyway. I had a crappy laptop that ran like dialup internet laying around collecting dust and I decided to bring it to the pawn shop. Dude told me 50 bucks, so I said what about an even trade for a guitar, so I went and grabbed a really nice starcaster and he said sure. I looked it up, guitar is worth like 150 Score right?
Anyway, any tips for a guitar newb. Im watching some youtube videos on learning. I literally dont know how to play anything, but really eager to learn. TIA for any tips given

Get an acoustic and learn on that. And don't get a $150 acoustic--check reverb.com or someplace similar, and you should be able to pick up a nice used acoustic for $250--$300. It's well worth it.
Last but not least: ENJOY. Playing and writing songs is one of the coolest things in the whole world.

Well Ive been writing songs for years, play some keyboard and make some beats. But yea I have an Acoustic I will be getting back soon, but I enjoy learning on the electric. Always wanted to play electric. Plus I spend majority of my off time in my studio, so its going to stay hooked up.
Learned A Major and E Major Chords tonight, having some fun with them, slid over and made my own blues type riff, was pretty cool too. I really love playing and learning. Going to take me a little bit to get the hang of but its fun

Yeah always go used for your 1st guitar.
The one I learned on was a Fender CD-60 dreadnaught I found used at the local Guitar Center. It runs about 250 brand new. I bought it for like 130 and it came with a free hardshell case. If it was new, the case alone would've cost at least a hundred bucks.

If you are happier with the guitar, then you got a good deal.If you start learning well, you will probably want to upgrade soon.
Don't expect much trade in value from the starcaster.
What kind of amp are you using?

I figured I can get at least my investment of a crappy CPU out of if. But I dont think I will sell my first guitar. Im a sentamentalist, and I like to hold on to things like this for my kids etc, like my dad did for me. But anyway, Im plugging into my Peavey Mixer into my Presonus interface, into my Macbook pro into Pre Sonus studio one lol. Im doing studio music right now, eventually I will get an amp and a couple of pedals.

damn, that sounds complicated. until you get a good guitar, try one of the Mustang minis,it has built in effects, and you can also download other guitar profiles into it online.

I will check it out. Thanks. And its not ver complicated. I alreadu have my board plugged into interface for Vocal recording, so its simple to just plug the guitar right in. Sounds great too. This guitar has really good sound btw, all I need for a while for me making tracks etc. When I eventually play live shows with bands I will upgrade

It's a funny thing about guitar - you're a real "musician" to start with, and a lot of things you're going to be ahead of a lot of other novice guitarists in that respect. You've already got an investment in a studio, even if it's mostly computerized, with just a little effort you can have a bunch of amp and effect models to allow you to experiment with a lot of tones.
But, electric, compared to playing acoustic is generally pretty easy. Learn 6 to 8 power chords and just set a basic rhythm with that. Find a couple of scales you like to write in and you'll sound a lot more experienced than you actually are - even just making up your own solos as you go.
I must say the guitar is the most fun instrument to play around with, even if you don't know what you're doing, than any other I've tried.

first guitar I fell in love with was a gold top les Paul.
I own other guitars now, I keep them for sentimental value. I have a Dean dixie rebel that was a gift, never use it because I'm not a fan of the Floyd rose.
Les Paul custom (Black with Silver hardware) is my go-to. Never been a fender guy, nothing truly against them..just never got the feel or sound from fender that I desired.

Man, I bought a Dean Axcess Performer a/e the other day for 100 bucks. It's a really beautiful guitar and plays and sounds great. The lower end guitars are getting so much better these days.

Think he means 6-8 open chords, power chords are the same shape just moved up and down the fretboard. Learn your open chords and how to switch between them without thinking, then go from there.

Yea Im learning A, E, and D Major right now and how to transition into each of them. Im getting it slowly but surely. Doesnt help that whoever owned my guitar before me strung the chords up
E, A, D, C, G, G, B
Put me 2 G chords and left out the fricking E. Pisses me off, screws up the sound and I have to change up the chords to make it soubd decent, especially the D Major, it sound like crap the right way right now. Hopefully the guitar store here in LC is open tomorrow, any suggestions on some rather cheap but good electric strings??

Back then I didnt care about guitars etc, and my buddy said hey I will re string it. So I said whatever. Now I am actually learning guitar and I want it back LOL.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestion on the earnie strings. Loving them, gives much more pop, those other strings were dead.
