I've been invited by a friend to "Piano Night" at the HOB. Anybody here ever been? What should I expect? T.I.A.

So, did you go? I've been several times. Jazz Fest dads or not, it's a great exhibition of New Orleans Piano. Joe Krown, who's organized in the last few years, does an awesome job of collecting talent and putting on this show. I missed this year but I'll be back.

I did. We sat in the balcony - which wasn't a bad view of the stage at all. Marsalis, the elder (on piano), accompanied by his son on sax, was nice. I really liked Jon Cleary; often plays alongside Bonnie Raitt.

It was my first time at the HOB. Didn't know what to expect. My only complaint (many have had the same complaint on Trip Advisor) is that it was over-the-top loud. Somebody needs to talk to the sound guy and tell him to chill - more is not necessarily better. I mean it was brutal. At times it was just a mishmash of sounds. I probably would not go back next year unless they correct that.
