How many old-timers on here remember that this was supposed to happen? And if you were old enough to go you can thank fricking Ossie Brown for the fact you didn't have the chance.

Sixteen days before Randy died.

I'll never forget. I think about it quite often. Loved Randy, and I think a lot of people don't remember how huge Ozzy was and the circus surrounding him were.

Yeah I did too and you're right about the circus. WOW!!! I actually did get to see him three times in '83 and '84. Parents and teachers were horrified by him. HELL... He became downright mainstream later in life. If you had told me back then that one day Ozzy would be a TV star and Crazy Train would be blared in every single sports stadium in the nation I sure would've thought you were nuts!!!

Saw Ozzy at the Baton Rouge Fairgrounds in 1983? at the day of rock and roll? But still forever bummed about missing Randy.

Yeah, amazed at Ozzy's mainstream popularity. Who would have thunk it.

Yep.

My buddy and I told our parents we were going to a movie at Bon Marche. But at about 3:00 his dad told him he couldn't use the car. So I begged my dad for his, to go to the movie of course. He relented and as he was handing me the keys he said "You go anywhere near that Ozzy Osbourne concert I'll have your head in a sack."

So I picked up my buddy and away we went. Missed Leroux and Vandenburg but saw BOC and Ozzy. My poor dad never knew.

Saw him again in Feb. of '84 at UNO Lakefront with Motley Crue opening.

Then just about a month later ANOTHER Ozzy show at the Centroplex was announced... June 4th with Accept opening. And Accept was my absolute favorite band at that time. Tickets went on sale on a Saturday for that one. This was over a year after the infamous AC/DC show, so all tickets were now reserved seating. So I went out to the Centroplex box office with a sleeping bag at 9 am the day before, and my buddy was gonna come down after work to camp out with me. I was the only person out there of course. After about two hours, the box office worker came out and told me that the manager wanted her to take down my name and number of tickets I wanted and I could go home, come back the next morning and we would go straight to the front of the line.

So we did. Got there in plenty of time the next morning and were literally able to walk up and be first in line in front of the other poor souls who had actually camped out. There were a couple of them who were like WTF??

So we had two tickets on the front row in the middle. Then a few weeks later, he got cancelled AGAIN!!! This time the arena caved to the pressure from some Reverend named David Diamond.

We wound up happy actually because we then got tickets to the June 6th concert at the Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, which was general admission. Of course we got there hours ahead of time, were the first ones through the door, and wound up right up front.

Took a Greyhound to get there and stayed in the Holiday Inn right next to the Coliseum. Man what a great time.

infamous AC/DC show,

Was there also. Wild times. I was approached 2 or 3 times on the floor by drug dealers. Man, you could barely move in that place it was so packed. The beginning of the end for concerts for me really at the Centroplex. Went to see Rush after the AC/DC concert and everybody just sat on their hands; cops all over the place, etc. Kinda a dead vibe. Sad.

The Centoplex really rocked in the old days.

Yeah man I was there too.

And yes, it SUCKED!!! It was the very first concert post-AC/DC. Cops going up and down every fricking aisle! Even the people up in the front row were not allowed to stand as the cops were pacing up there too.

Yes it did. My favorite show ever there has to be BOC and Foghat in October '81. April Wine earlier that year was actually pretty good too. I did not, however, make it to that AC/DC show.

Was there also. Saw BOC a few times. Solid live band.

Never saw April Wine. Love Myles Goldwyn, very underrated singer.

Saw a bunch of good shows at the Centroplex back in the day. KISS in '79, Van Halen a couple of times, Journey, Nugent, the Doobies, Fleetwood Mac, The Babys, The Cars, etc. Like you said, those were good times.

Cool. Yeah I saw Van Halen and the Doobies too. Clearly there were a number of shows we both attended.
America in '79 was actually really good too. Judas Priest in '83...

No love for UFO in this thread?
Michael Schenker was an absolute beast with that Flying V
Saw them w/ RUSH at the Warehouse, w/ Blue Oyster Cult at Municipal Auditorium and w/ Judas Priest at Jones Music Hall in Houston
Saw Black Sab at Sam Houston Coliseum in 78', Osbourne became a novelty after he left Tony and Geezer...

One of my favorite guitarists. Dude can solo like no one else's business. He was co-headlining with Ted Nugent at the Centroplex back in the 80's but got arrested the night before in New Orleans and didn't show up. Man, was I bummed.

SO funny. I remember that well too. Didn't have tickets but went out there with some buddies to try to possibly sneak in, with no luck. Really wanted to see MSG too. Heard while we were loitering outside during Nugent's set that they didn't play. Story we heard was they had broken up earlier in the day. Did not know about the arrest. Very interesting.
