I heard SCI was amazing(as usual). I hope people had an opportunity to hear them that normally wouldn't give them a chance. Their music is brilliant.

anybody see Jack White? How was he solo?

I did, and honestly, he was just ok at best. Maybe he was overshadowed by some other awesome performances this weekend, but I've certainly seen better.

This festival overall was ok (in comparison to last years lineup) but nevertheless one of the best experiences of this year. i highly recommend even if not going to the festival, you can still enjoy live music near/on the beach in surrounding areas. locals are great, security was fantastic )in comparison to LA's) no fights broke out, everyone danced even on the way to the food courts and everyone I mean everyone was handing out cold ice water from their coolers to the security/floor peeps there and it was great to see them cooled down enough to enjoy the music while working and lookin at all the arse!!!

it was a damn paradise. live music just earwaxed the hell out of 30,000+ everywhere you went, even the port-o-potties were shakin to the music and none fell over (swear to whoever)

i don't want to post about the bands i saw just yet as amny are probably reviewing them on here anyway but as for the infrastructure of the festival, an OT 10

Awesome, awesome, awesome time. I never waited for a porta-potty once, and I drank enough beer to float the Titantic so I was a frequent visitor. Never had to wait long for water or beer, either. The new, bigger festival site worked out great. I have no complaints at all. I wasn't nearly as excited about the line-up this year as I was last year, but the music still turned out awesome. I just wasn't as familiar with the bands. As someone else said, the coolest part is how happy and nice everybody is. Even the sheriff's deputy that violated me was extremely polite and professional about it. I think I'll go every year I can regardless of what the lineup looks like.

I'm in serious need of of a nap, though.

had a great time just as much fun as it was last year

Biggest Surprise:Yelawolf-dude can rap his arse off and his tribute to the beastie boys was awesome

Biggest dissapointment:Dispatch..i was really pumped about seeing them but they turned out to be pretty boring, The General was cool though, also i heard Jack White was boring but i wouldnt know because i was at sts9 getting blown away

Best Show: im one of the biggest Chili Pepper fans in the world but they didnt touch DMB imho..not a huge Dave fan but they were fricking amazing, it may have been because i was standing in the same spot waiting for Rhcp for 4 hours and was pretty tired by time they came up and for Dave i was freshly buzzed and energized but Dave beat out Rhcp for the best performance

other notables:Rebelution-AWESOME way to start the festival they killed it

Mac Miller-pretty good didnt suck wasnt amazing i do remember having to piss this whole show though

Skrillex-was cool but i got seperated from my group and was by myself for this and surrounded by nothing but sweaty dudes

sts9 and Big Gigantic-i knew both were going to be good but didnt think they would be that good, these 2 were towards the top for me

and a last sidenote.. to the 40 year old lady that got mad at me for smoking a joint during DMB

I really did not think that '11, and '10 could be topped, but damnit, 2012 was the best time I have probably ever had, ever. I was not too thrilled about the lineup before, but I was impressed with basically everyone I saw.

Hard to pick just one favorite show, but these were the most impressive to me:

Wilco: Went by myself because my crew wanted to go see UM. Got really close, and they fricking killed it. GREAT setlist, and awesome playing. The Misunderstood>Poor Places opener was perfect.

Givers: Almost skipped them because I was so hungover, but they ended being the best remedy for my hangover, because they blew me the frick away with their performance. They play like they are possessed, and the female singer...I want to marry her. She was just beating the shite out of her tom toms, wailing away. Gave me goosebumps the whole show.

String Cheese Incident: I had not seen them in about 8 years, and I don't really listen to them too much anymore, but they impressed the hell out of me. It was an all out dance party, with a very adequate mix of bluegrass tunes. The Joyful Sound they played over the BBoy's Paul Revere beat was really sweet. Just an overall hell of a time.

Dr. Dog: One of my favorite bands, but I had heard that they struggle with festival sets. Well, they did not struggle. They fricking rocked. The Rabbit, The Bat, and the Reindeer to close was pure bliss for me.

Greyboy Allstars: Soooooo fricking funky. It was another early, hangover curing dance fest. They did a sweet rendition of MJ's "The Way You Make Me Feel".

Biggest surprises:

M. Ward: I have one of his albums, and I dig it, but I have never seen him live, or talked to anyone who has, so I did not really know what to expect. I again left my crew to go to mward because no one wanted to go. I was expecting a more mellow set, but na, shite was straight rock n roll. Finished with "Rollover Beethoven", and killed it.

Devil Makes Three: I had heard about them, but had never listened to them. They were great. Some straight up whiskey-bent music. Loved it.

DMB: I'm not a DMB hater, but I don't listen to him really. I respect him as a great songwriter, and his band as some talented mfers, but I still did not know how much I would like his set. It did not blow me away or anything, but it was pretty damn good. I'm glad I did not skip out.

Everything you said here sums up my experience as well. Even after we got pulled over and the driver went to jail, the cop could not have been nicer. I have NEVER seen a cop be that nice and cool. Woulda been a lot cooler if he had just let the friend ride in the cab, but we understand there was too much ignorance on the driver's part to let that happen. Balloons were confiscated day 1 but had no problems day 2,3 once we attached them to a broom. Ok now to the music reviews:

Dawes-good crowd, I enjoyed the band but was not blown away.

Paul Oakenfold-I have seen him many times when I was in college and would go to state palace. I think a lot of the kids don't understand that not all EDM music is dubstep and Oakenfold certainly is not dubstep. We only stayed for about 30 minutes before getting back over to Umphreys, but Oakenfold would have been better if it had been night time and could have had a light show.

Umphrey's Magee-we were sitting beside a large group of LSU kids before this Umph started. I saw a lot of LSU shirts/hats/huggies at the fest. We were reppin' well! Really liked Umphrey's. Shoulda been at one of the 2 bigger stages though. The crowd was big for this one.

STS9-Blew me away. Our whole group went full retard for 2 hours. Favorite performance of the weekend.

Late Night Party at EOTO-SUCKED. did not like venue, too far away. needed to be inside to get full effect of stage design and lighting.

Skrillex-kinda disappointed but we had a good spot on the left side under a palm tree and chilled there and listened. I don't know why I was disappointed.

Kaskade-liked better than Skrillex!

String Cheese-we went to the skybar and drank a lot of booze and hung out in those hammocks during String Cheese. We could hear them, but it was really more like background music. My husband walked over there and said it was awesome. He has great video of awesome hula hoopers that were over there.

Shpongle-LOVED it! Wish they would have closed in the sides of the tent to enhance the lighting effects though.

RHCP-got to hear the last hour of them. We were kinda too far to see what was going on up on the stage but it was still fun.

Steve Winwood-LOVED it!

Zed's Dead-Biggest surprise of the weekend. Great show, great energy. Even the friends in our group who had never heard of Zed, loved the show.

Flaming Lips-Biggest disappointment of the weekend. We were too far away to get the full effect of the show and see what was going on. At this point my gas tank was on empty and prob should have gone back to the house.

DMB-I was pretty much dead at this point, but was more than happy to lay down and chill and listen to Dave. I have seen him twice before and thought the show was just as good as back in college/hs.

My first HF, and I loved it. I mean, take away the music, good food, and good vibes...and you're still on the beach of gulf shores with alcohol (and other substances of your choosing). Pretty high baseline already...

Initial impressions? Amazed at the number of hot babes this weekend. I was expecting full throttle hippiness, but there was actually a lot of really down to earth and beautiful women...IN BIKINIS. DANCING.

Was expecting uncomfortable weather...and Sunday was almost there, but if you're from the South it's expected. Saturday was perfect though and even on Sunday there was always a bit of breeze. Great weather.

Water was easily accessible (for the most part). There was always a wait of about 5-10 minutes at the peak, but it wasn't ever too bad. Bathrooms? Never had to wait. Amazing.

Food was decent. Nothing to write home about.

Bands?
Look, I'm not a hipster. I don't know all of these bands playing, so I didn't know what to expect. I came in fully aware that I was willing to pay for this wristband just to see DMB on the beach. Boy, was I in for it.

Skrillex: Wow. Probably up there as #1 as most impressed and fun. This dude engaged the crowd and the crowd bit off every bit of it and more. Lots of energy and fun. Too much crowd surfing

Schpongle: Caught about 30 minutes of it while RHCP were playing at the beginning. Very good. Would need some special drugs to fully appreciate the visuals along with the music. Was very much a 'trance' type of aura. Interesting people watching it as well.

Zed's Dead: Just passed by and watched from the back for a while. Pretty good.

Freedia: Holy moly. Very out of place for this venue, but was hilarious and very entertaining. I would recommend everyone see this guy at least once.

Michael Franti: Too much "sunshine" pumping for my taste, but he was great in engaging the crowd. Performed in the middle of the crowd several times and had a lot of variety in his music. Was about 40 yds from front stage. WAS VERY HOT AT THIS POINT.

RHCP: Stayed way in the back near the tents, but enjoyed the show. My first time seeing them, and they seemed legit. They're a weird bunch though...were saying all sorts of awkward things on stage. "Support rap, rock, reggae...fricking all of it"

DMB: Great set. 35% of his songs were from GrooGrux (as confirmed by Antsmarching.org). Here was his set:

quote:

Big Eyed Fish 2
Don't Drink the Water 2
Seven 2
Grace Is Gone 2
Eh Hee 2
Jimi Thing 2
Mercy 3
Funny The Way It Is 2
Stay or Leave 2
Squirm 3
#41 2
Shake Me Like A Monkey 2
You And Me 2
Why I Am 2
Two Step 2
E: Save Me 2
E: All Along The Watchtower 2

I freaked out when he played jimithing and Two Step. Don't Drink the Water near the beginning and All Along The Watchtower at the end were great ways to start and stop. I've seen them 5 times now (pretty big fan), and this was probably my 2nd favorite show. Interesting for them not to play their 'usuals' like Ants Marching, Crash, Satellite, Tripping Billies...but still awesome. AWESOME.

Flaming Lips: Utter disappointment for me. Granted at this point I was burned out and was saving my energy for DMB, but I had heard so much about them and was very pumped up about hearing DSOTM. I love Pink Floyd, so I thought this would be a great way to introduce them to me. Well, they started off VERY SLOW in my opinion, although it was awesome to see them throw so much confetti and beach balls. Seemed like a lot of fun if you were in front of them. By the time they started playing DSOTM, it was time to relocate to the other stage to see DMB. I wish they would have kicked it off first in recognition of this general movement by most people (to see DMB).

Great venue. So much fun. So many things to see and do. Didn't even get a chance to ride any rides. Will be back again if I can help it.
