Didn't really connect on first listen. Had the same feeling after one listen of Among the Ghosts, and I now consider it among the best records of the just 5 years. I'll give this one some more time to sink in.

Same here. I like it a lot now. About 3 times through it I got used to Ben not sounding like the old Ben, but still very good.

Honestly, that being a single ahead of time I think made it harder to warm up to the record. I did not find it to be compelling. Felt like it picked 6 wild bullet points from the guys life instead of creating any kind of connection to what made him tick or what was the real root of why he was drawn to such a wild series of life choices. Almost felt like each line needed to be fleshed out to a song on a concept album telling the ridiculous stories in long form.
