Brings me to a question about screamo. Is it considered metal?
I swear on my life that I always assumed that non-metalheads referred to and generalized any extreme metal subgenre as "screamo". I had no idea it was an actual subgenre of music.

They seem to play good bit of it on the "Metal" station on Sirius/XM. Probably Ozzy's Boneyard would be a better place to start?
It doesn't matter if it's Pandora or Sirius, most of those stations are going to include some inappropriate music here and there.

Real metal fans will make fun of you for listening to screamo.
Hell, I would make fun of myself for listening to it. Some of it sounds pretty cool for about 30 seconds, but mostly I couldn't handle it.
I mistakenly assumed it was a type of metal so tried to have an open mind.
I tried the same for punk back in the day and couldn't get into it.

Start with the basics, Sabbath, Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Megadeth, etc.
I am assuming Rammstein is included in "etc."?

Hell no. Industrial metal shares more in common with industrial music than it does actual metal.
"etc." would include: Motorhead, Queensryche, early Motley Crue, Anthrax, Diamond Head, and so on and so forth.

Not Rammstein. Listen to bands the stereotypical 80s metalhead would listen to. Try not to be open minded too. If you're a fan of metal its ok to be a close minded, elitist a-hole. In fact its preferred.

Well dang, I like Rammstein. They were actually a band in the documentary.

Don't think I can go that far.
I like classical, jazz, blues, classic rock, pop, country, reggae, big band, and even some bro country, so I won't ever be a true metal head.
This is a great discussion though. I am excited to learn about this genre.

I like Rammstein too, especially their earlier stuff.
However, there music is not as much aligned with the blues-influenced sound of Black Sabbath and early heavy metal acts.
Personally, I thought Dunn gave them a little more attention than they deserved. At the end of the day, it's a documentary about music. Therefore, sound, rather than appearance, should have greater bearing on a group's value and impact.

Opeth is probably my favorite metal band of all time, but I think it's that their sound is far more diverse than pure metal. They'll go from full death metal with growls to a gorgeous classical acoustic arrangement and back.
They obviously take a lot of influence from hard classic rock, covering Deep Purple and Robin Trower.
