MB Musicians: Opinions on Using Kaossilators, Softsynths, and the Like?

Do you consider it legit musicianship? Cheating? Something else?
I'm torn because I think it would be pretty lame to watch someone just fiddling with a laptop or electronic device during a live show, but at the same time it's pretty impressive to me how some of these people (kids, at that) can manipulate these devices.
